From this morning's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Tickets for Stones concerts have been notoriously expensive, and the Marcus Amphitheater date is no different: from $94.40 to $421.95." The full article:

For all their talk about how much Stu meant to them, his complete absence from CH is an insult to the memory of a real stand-up guy who had every right to tell them to piss off in '63. I view Crossfire Hurricane as Jagger's Cliff Notes Guide to the Rolling Stones. Showing only the "best of" 1965-1981. It's as if the band didn't exist before "Satisfaction.&quo

As much of a AC/DC fan as I am (though, admittedly moreso of the Bon Scott version) their set was a disappointment. 'Rock or Bust' was completely forgettable; a generic three-chord clunker with no memorable riff to set if off (a la, Girls Got Rhythm, Sin City...) and, as someone earlier on here pointed out, HTH was "weak and lifeless." Whose idea was it to pass out devil horns

Quoteswimtothemoon Seems I heard the uptown was recently renovated and the old seats and fixtures being sold. Unless I'm confused with another Milwaukee theater? It is the Avalon Theatre on Milwaukee's south side that's been renovated and reopened. The Uptown closed not too long after the Barbarians make-up show and fell into disrepair after a boiler explosion and flood. It was r

Can anyone recommend a good Altamont boot? The ones I've seen are all audience recordings and I'm always a little leery of audience recs. But, I'll take 'em if they're decent! (Apologies if I should've started a new topic instead of piggybacking on this one.)

A number of years ago, I seem to remember Charlie (talking about his love/hate relationship with touring) say that he can't play the drums at home, so if he wants to play, he has to go on the road. One night at the Watts' estate: "Oh bloody 'ell. Are ya banging on those bleedin' drums again Cholly? You're drivin' me right 'round the bend. When are y

QuoteChacho Get a Sansa Clip Zip. There is no distinguisable difference in perceived sound quality between it and 90% of other more expensive players. Spend your money on the ear-phones, up to 4 times what the Sansa costs. I have a Sansa Clip and it does the job for me. But, be aware that its small size is also a drawback. Navigating with the tiny buttons can be a pain, and I cannot read the di

In all my Stones readings, I don't think I'd ever heard this claim before. Anyone else? From a post on the Facebook page for The Wrecking Crew: Here's the question and answer to yesterday's "Trivia Tuesday" post: This famous British producer originally coined the phrase "Wall of Sound" when referring to Phil Spector's music production formula

I'm currently reading "Boogie Man" the John Lee Hooker bio by Charles Murray. In the section of the book where Murray talks about the business practices used by the record companies and producers, particularly when dealing with black artists, he repeats this story--sort of. "In 1964, The Rolling Stones...made their pilgrimage to Chicago to record at Chess studios...They we

Quotewith sssoul It's as if they never lost their entire catalog-to-date to Alan Klein too. The film doesn't fulfill its stated aims. When the director's been interviewed about it, I got the very strong impression that the final product isn't at all the film he wanted to make, but he got the daylights overruled out of him For me, CH is "Stones Lite" There ar

QuoteF.U.C. the Captain So much about the "friendship" of the Stones and Stu. All of them treated him like a servant all the way. There's no excuse for it. I was very disappointed and well...kind of pissed, that he wasn't mentioned. Then again, "Crossfire Hurricane" is very much Mick's story of the band (as Producer), and the narrative really doesn't begi

Check out this priced-to-sell Ronnie Lane DVD from German TV. Not only a great moment from Ronnie, but Stu is the piano player. If, like me, you've only seen Stu in blink-and-you-miss-it glimpses in Stones vids, you're in for a treat. There are a number of lingering shots of him working the eighty-eights.

Oh this is just sad. J. Geils Band without J. Geils?? Fitting that they're touring with Seger: Olde Tyme Rock n Roll has taken over Proud Mary's spot as the song everyone's drunk uncle dances to at weddings.

I just finished reading "God Save the Kinks" by Rob Jovanovic (who did a nice little book on everybody's favorite album, EOMS, for the Thirty-three and a Third series.) Ray comes off as a real diva, especially during the "theatrical" era (Preservation, Soap Opera, et al) Then again, Ray's side of the story is told by other band members and associates. Reading the bo

I would've liked more detail about the shows. The life-on-the-road stuff is interesting, of course, but what about the music, man? I, too, was skeptical about the appearance of 'Wild Horses' on this tour--I had never seen it included in any of the published setlists. But if Wyman says they played it, well then... And speaking of Wyman: in the chapter about the difficulties of recor

QuoteMiss U. Keith and Anita dabbled in the occult, her more than him. According to Tony Sanchez's book, Anita wanted some kind of occult wedding ceremony. And there was the trip to see Rio Banana way back when... I remember reading this, too. I think Anita persuaded Keith to meet with Kenneth Anger as a "consultant" for some kind of 'black magic' wedding. Keith said

I actually find the crew chatter at the beginning of L&G an exciting build-up to the concert, and I regularly include it whenever I watch the movie. "Two minutes!"..."Fire 'em up!" ...and finally, "Black it!" The first thing we hear is Charlie giving his drums a few warm-up whacks, then Mick runs into the spotlight...then Keith's plugging in. Aw hell,
