Stones might be on the bill of the 2006 Teleconcerto in Rome. Huge venue. 300,000 showed up for Macca and Simon and Garfunkel in the previous editions. Let's see how Cohl workes Rome this time: only a miserable 6,000 tix sold @ the flaminio stadium in 1990! 1) Cut the set list down to 15 numbers = approx 1.30 hrs concert (cut the fillers). 2) Fix a standard set-list scheme (i.e. 1 opener 2 rock and roll 3 new song 4 slow number 5 long jam song 6 keith spot 7 8 9 B stage etc etc. ... 14 warhorse 15 closer) 3) Rehearse 15 "triples", i.e. 3 songs for every position of the standard scheme of set list, for a total of 45 songs. Mistakes? In chronological order Not releasing RS No. 2 Not releasing an official 1972 live album (more of a crime than a mistake) Not releasing an official 1973 live album Not releasing an official 1978 live album Leaving Jah's not dead unfinished Not releasing a collection of CBS singles (including B-sides, from a commerical point of view a very stupid mistake) Vo

Great memory! You are right: that's a black tele custom he is using on HIW, AND it is tuned in open G (5 strings as well, I see!) So what about this honey tele custom (honey?) he is using now? C

I find these huge stages absolutely awful. And I think they don't suit the rolling stones at all (as a band and the music). It comes to a point where the thing is so big you don't even notice there actually is a band playing somewhere. Licks was a very well balanced compromise. It reminded the stage of RHCP during the californication tour: as of today one of the best stages I

Unfortunately Italian music critics are, if possible, with some very rare exceptions, even more incompetent than sport critics. The above just confirms my opinion. Same old stuff at any given release by the Stones. With some "pearls": quote, referred to D.J. "sostituendo un musicista mediocre con un turnista sopraffino" [transl. "replacing a mediocre musician

In my book Hard Rock is strictly tied to palm muted pedal on a open string combinated with "power chords". Rythm is not provided by an alternation of "upstrokes" and "downstrokes", it comes from the alternation of pedal and chord, all in downstrokes. Harmony does not come from the chords (power chords don't have the III, which gives the major minor sound) but

All I can remember (I was 14 at the time) is that I desperately wanted to go, but couldn't find a way. The main reason why I couldn't go was because I was at Elba island with my family for the summer holidays (see the coincidence: Elba was also the island where Napoleon was first exiled). Anyway Italy had just won the footbal world cup vs germany (3-1) so I could survive. Netherthe

I think that ballads don't suit the Stones well. This doesn't mean that their slow stuff is bad. There are so many stunning slow songs in their cathalogue. But most of them are sort of "easy listening" in between rock numbers. Good to listen to while relaxing and drinking a good beer. They are great but they don't move me. Angie is the quintessential Stones slow number:

In the LP days the cover "made" 1/2 of the album. BtB has a superb cover, and not only the cover is great, it also matches exactly the mood of the music. Of course the GB version is THE version. I agree that we don't have a BB or a Sf or Exile here. Still it is full of great music. And quite original as well (funny it is usually described as a "pop" album). It&

Saw 'em in san siro last night. First time I saw them live. I have the early record. Joshua tree was a very good one. Rattle and hum interesting. Achtung Baby so and so. I gave a listen to the following ones, I can live without not having the CDs in my cathalogue. One can say I am not a U2 fan. Nevertheless I wanted to see them, just to have my own opinion. Here it is. - More than a con

The main problem of our group is that we can't find a male singer who is into rock and roll music. I might be narrow minded, but in my opinion unless you are Tina, rock and roll does not suit female vocals. Females are wonderful for the blues, jazz, bossa, folk, plain rock, etc. etc. But they seem not to have the "roll" in their DNA. At least not here in Italy. Since thi

I was back on the road with my band yesterday for a benefit concert. This is what was programmed. Afternoon off from work, preparation of the stage, rehearsal / sound check. 9 opening act. 10 kick off. Energetic set list. All covers. 6 stones numbers (rocks off / miss you/ melody / SFTD / wild horses) + a couple of Black Crows, Rod Stewart and a slow Led Zep number (since I've been lov
