Set list - what I would do if I were in MJ's shoes
Date: September 2, 2005 17:06
1) Cut the set list down to 15 numbers = approx 1.30 hrs concert (cut the fillers).
2) Fix a standard set-list scheme (i.e. 1 opener 2 rock and roll 3 new song 4 slow number 5 long jam song 6 keith spot 7 8 9 B stage etc etc. ... 14 warhorse 15 closer)
3) Rehearse 15 "triples", i.e. 3 songs for every position of the standard scheme of set list, for a total of 45 songs. That means 3 openers, 3 slow numbers, 3 blues, 3 long jam songs, 3 rock and rolls, 3 keith's sets 3 wharhorses sets, 3 encores etc.
4) Mix the set lists every nigh, keeping the trace of the standard scheme. People are happy because they get a dramatically different show every night, stones are happy because they have to rehearse only 45 or so songs. 1, 2 or sometimes 3 "surprise" numbers in a fixed set list, as it was during the stadium shows of the Licks tour granted a more borig output.
5) Occasionally throw in a surprise or replace a warhorse
