I think this thread is similar to the 'who is the better singer: Wood or Taylor?-thread'... Comparing Jagger to Richards (songwriting) would be nicer one, although I'm not really interested.

Quotestonesdan60 So what's the secret to still sounding like the Stones despite all the changes to the live line up? Charlie Watts. There's no one like him. He's got a unique beat that's key to the Stones sound. If he were to die it would be a crime for Mick and Keith to tour and still call it The Rolling Stones. As long as you've got that interplay between Keith and Ch

QuoteNaturalust Quotestonesrule Someone posted that "Charlie's peak was 1969. Completely disagree. Me too. I am constantly amazed by Charlies work throughout the 80's and 90's and beyond. Charlie is the Rolling Stones for me. Just the most basic stuff to fit the song with that ever strong 2 and 4 of his which I never get tired of. It's great to hear him talking about

Quote71Tele When comparing Brussels to later, not only was Taylor better than Wood, Richards was better than Richards, and Wyman was better than Wyman and Jagger was better than Jagger. That's it! and Charlie? Charlie's peak is 1969...but when comparing Brussels to later Charlie was better than Charlie...and Jimmy Miller Well, I can't bother the Taylor-Wood discussion...you

QuoteSpud I've always thought that the whole point of the original SFTD solo was that it was spikey, edgy, unsettling and uncomfortable to listen to. it's nasty...and it works. Most of Keith's solos were unsettling and uncomfortable to listen to The whole point is why the original SFTD solo was also spikey and edgy...

QuoteSilver Dagger It could easily be Dave Mason. Listen to the tone of his solo in Dear Mr Fantasy. Very similar. And it was Jimmy Miller who produced both of them. Well, it was Steve Winwood on this one, not Dave Mason...

I thought the Band's 'Pink' LP had a huge influence on Clapton (circa 1968), and Eric had enough of this 'Clapton=God'/Guitarhero-status...Blind Faith from the start was never to last long. That's why he joined Delaney and Bonnie (not in the spotlights). The Rolling Stones would never have been an option for Eric.

QuoteMathijs QuoteSacke Well, nowadays people dance on music based on a computerbeats (mechanical)...I agreed it can be funky, as is Charlie's drums circa 75/76, but 'swing' is something different Matthijs! Charlie doesn't swing because he does some fills now and then... Take a drum computer. Do a 4 to the floor with the kick, and 16th pattern on the hi-hat. What do we ha
