I don't think there is any love lost between the IIHF and the NHL. This always seems to be a bone of contention every year when this tournament is discussed on here. Who said it was? I think it's more complicated than one being more important than the other. For one thing, assuming you're referring to the NHL, your "club team" is paying you a lot of money and you play with those teammates all year. I read in the news that Toronto Maple Leafs has stopped William Nylander from further playing in this tournament. Protecting their investment, so to speak. Which in a way reveals the interests behind this tournament. It's a recruiting centre for the NHL. The NHL will reap the best of our crop so to speak. And, even worse, half of them will be benched and play in a supporting league (AHL).
