Great work there, that's proper music no doubt!

I flipped for this track when I heard it on the Love Is Strong CD single. I see that there's not a hell of a lot of enthusiasm for it on here, but I think it's fantastic. A successful result at knocking off a blues that isn't strictly twelve-bar, and is memorable from the first time you hear it. The sound of a great band.

Quotebv I had late breakfast as usual Friday morning, still on Perth time for some reason, waking up late. When I logged into my PC I had an e-mail I just could not understand immediately: Cancelled Show: Rolling Stones in Mt Macedon at Hanging Rock on Nov 8th I just could not accept it. I was so ready for Hanging Rock. I have been thinking about Hanging Rock for a year or so now! I was in

Quotemikesnaps This is a terrible situation. I know people have been relating their own experience of having a concert cancelled. This scenario is a bit different. These poor fans have had the same show cancelled twice! Fans were very understanding when Mick pulled out of the tour in March. Many people lost money ie flights, accommodation etc, only a small percentage wanted a refund, they were p

Yeah, I am also interested in what gets recorded first. As Dandelion said, there'd have to be a track (with a guide vocal?) before anybody is filmed. I would imagine that perhaps the musicians comprising some of the "rhythm section" would be recorded / filmed first - bass, main drums, and some guitars? It'd be interesting to ask the producers, unless some article (in somewhere

A sign of the "corporate rock" times that this was so sterile - it's no "Dance", let's put it that way. Jagger did get this sort of formula right, in my opinion, a few years later, with Sweet Thing. That was a great funky tune that sounded genuine. The Stones bettered Sex Drive a bit with Suck On The Jugular, and then later with Rain Fall Down, which I think is a

I think that two of the points mentioned above were probably the main reasons: The difficulty Mac had in getting better pay, as well as a clear idea of his financial renumeration; and the fact that Mac did heartily partake in drugs and alcohol during his time with the Stones, making him perhaps seem in retrospect like an uncertain choice for the non-debauched era (similarly to Bobby Keys, w

Pretty cool track, one of their genuine latter-day rockers that sounds "natural". I don't mind the guitar sound - I think Don Was captures the Stones' guitar sound rather well, and the over-compression / "digital" effects don't bother me. Just about every modern album, many of them fantastic, uses digital technology, and plenty of it. It's no Start Me U

In a Kirsty MaxColl documentary, Marr talked about himself, Kirsty and Keith staying up all night singing Everly Brothers songs. With Kirsty telling Keith to "re-do" when his harmonies were wrong, and him taking it like a man, ha ha! She certainly wasn't the kind to put on airs and graces around a 'legend', so I think Richards could just be his pre-fame self around those

Damn fantastic version - Mick's vocals do sound more atmospheric with the slap reverb on it. The bass player is clearly just trying to figure out what he'll play. I'm not that crazy about the bass on this version, perhaps for that reason. It's Darryl Jones playing on this, innit? (I know, I should just look up the track notes) The album version's a perfectly fine li

Great articles these - the Modeliste interview as well! As for the last one - why on earth did they choose Doom And Gloom? Goes to show that commercial music writing (esp. the list-making type) is pretty vapid. I mean: "Influence on: The Benny Benassi remix of the same song" is totally dumb. These Nathan Barleys must've run out of ideas...

That rooftop video is ace - of course they sound as good as the Who or the Stones. It's a completely different-sounding "rock" to those bands, but just as exciting. And yes, there isn't much "show" going on, but the music and interplay is a delight to listen to - Billy Preston certainly included. Those five musicians would've put on a great concert, similarl

Well...... or maybe the piss-weak songs, ha ha! Much respect to Jagger, but that album is ever-so-boring and predictable, apart from "God Gave Me Everything". Unlike Wandering Spirit, which had some proper vitality.

I have to note how great I think Mick Taylor's rhythm playing is on these dates. The close-up video of Big Boss Man really showcases this. He keeps his rhythm parts fluid, intricate and interesting, and he clearly listens to everyone in the band for changes in dynamics. It's a joy to see this bunch making a "raqcket", I hope that Ronaldo and Mick keep up this partnership in so

I'm not being contrary, but I really like the cover art for A Bigger Bang. I think it's a pretty cool little composite, very contemporary but reflective of the band's dark / light dicothomy (big word, that!). It's a much better representation of a bunch of 60-something year-old rock musicians than the usual "standing around in semi-shadow, with bad sunglasses to cover the

QuoteRollingFreak And Darryll is just as much a professional as the Stones. He does an admirable and thankless job on bass. Listen, we just can't have Bill, and if it wasn't Darayll it would be someone else, and he's proven to be very good so far. I never understood the complaints against him, aside from people just being sore about Bill. Now that's a good balanced attitude,

I love 'em, love More Light as well as all their earlier stuff. Though Gillespie can sometimes be a disappointing lyric writer, with the ever-recurring old "revolutionary" cliches. But that's the worst I can say about the mighty Scream.

Funny how the Eagles, with their highly un-admired reputation as pure businessmen (Henley & Frey), should've put more thought into how to musically represent their former band member on tour than the Stones...

Regarding the bass tracks, I have no info, but I'd hazard that it's K.R. playing all of the bass. From the liner notes of the first album, it seems that the only overdubs were the fiddle and Keith's parts, the original "ensemble" recording was vocals and percussion. I could well be wrong, though... Great music, and without Keith's involvement it would be all bu

I'd be happy to see the Faces live with Mick Hucknall. I think it sounded great on footage of the European dates they played. Shame it wasn't more of an ongoing concern. He's got the pipes, the work ethic, and the love for the Faces' music. Not sure if Roderick S. would have any of those nowadays.

QuoteDandelionPowderman 320 kbps isn't necessarily crap. That's true - I wonder how often "audiophiles" and music listeners just say that due to it being a mantra in the "audiophile community". How many can even truly tell the difference - it'd be a lot less than it seems! Sure, it's lossy, but at 320 bit-rate, it's a perfectly listenable medium for
