would you stop it dude! Ian Gillan is a silly singer! Deep Purple, as with many other "hard rock" bands from the era, were really good players (uhm, except Ritchie Blackmore, who is responsible for some really, really bad players to come). Too many embarrassing singers with good players, tho. One more reason to get into Coltrane's Quartet- no poofy singers to ruin the music!

oh, i think She Was Hot is great fun, and actually gets quite wistful and sentimental towards the end- very sweet and real. and Stu's B-3 rising out of the gnarly mess is downright ethereal.

New young people coming up all the time. Very soon all they'll be able to buy (in hard copy format) will be the new remasters. And they'll sell as well as they always have (even with that dreadful '73 overdub on the word "pussy"in Star Star).

Quotecc don't think it's open G... maybe open D? It's a more drony sound than open G normally produces. One of my favorites. Kind of a Velvet Underground-y sound; that's probably why. Great atmosphere, lyrics, incidentals (the shouting at the beginning!). yup. we always used to do it it in D, and that guitar player knew his stuff (and let us all know it all the time, misera

I hear the word "pussy" all the time. Use it to. Some of you (American) cats are getting American puritanism confused with music. My point- again- is that the overdub has a musical quality, at least in memory, for those who heard it when it was released. Real simple point. Nothing to do with "morals" or any of that.

Music is music, man. And if the words are blurred or obscurred due to how the artist MADE their record (or at least released the work to the public in the US) in '73, that's the lasting imprint for some. I happen to think the particular quality of the overdub has a musical quality that- again, FOR ME- is embedded in my musical/Stones DNA. I have both versions; I prefer the weirdness

no disrespect man, although Rodgers has a good voice, i think he's anonymous and indistinguishable sounding. Lou Reed, Dylan, Waits, Strummer- those dudes can't sing, but they got a VOICE- know what I mean? Like, a writers voice in literature. And they weird sounding too! (so is Jagger) Millions of dudes can sing like Rodgers, but it's not very unique. Says me in my dumble opinio

Queen, while not my faves (Brian May is great, though), were a vey unique and original band. Paul Rogers, to me, represents everything bland, dull, and dumb about '70's "hard rock"singers (though Bad Company were a fine band, what with Mick Ralphs and all).

Not sure if there are overdubs, but the audio could be from different shows, as with the 'Ya Ya's/ Gimme Shelter' MSG video (i.e. Satisfaction). Funny, cuz i was just watching the Clash's 'Rude Boy', and they overdubbed almost all the live stuff, playing along to the film in real time.(Not easy for a fired up live band like the Stones or the Clash to do). An it wo

Big deal. I heard the censored version for 20 years before I heard the original. I assume everyone here has the '94 remaster, so now you can have both, if you want. I always thought- and indeed absorbed it this way- that the sloppy overdub had a musical quality of it's own; so much so that whenever I play my '94 remaster, to this day it's a bit jarring (and no live versi

Doug Wimbish is a great player- played on the very funk "Might As Well Get Juiced" from Bridges to Babylon (with Charlie playing along to a loop of Public Enemy's classic 'It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back' album'!!!). Wimbish was part of the original Sugarhill Records rhythm section (Grandmaster Flash, et al), with Keith LeBlanc on drums and Skip MacD
