Paul Rodgers confirms split with Queen

Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers says his collaboration with the surviving members of Queen is over.

Rodgers joined Brian May and Roger Taylor in 2004 and performed on several tours. They also recorded an album, The Cosmos Rocks, to mixed reviews in 2008.

Speaking to Billboard magazine, the singer said: "At this point we're gonna sit back from this."

Queen's original singer, flamboyant frontman Freddie Mercury, died of an Aids-related illness in 1991.

Rodgers has not ruled out the possibility of working together again.

"It's kind of an open book, really," he said. "If they approach me to do something for charity, for instance, or something like that... I'd be very much into doing that, for sure."

Queen bassist John Deacon retired from music in 1997, Rodgers joined May and Taylor for a set at the inaugural UK Music Hall of Fame Awards in 2004.

They subsequently toured Europe and Japan in 2005.

Rodgers hits the road with Bad Company for a 10-date run in the US this summer.

Queen, while not my faves (Brian May is great, though), were a vey unique and original band.

Paul Rogers, to me, represents everything bland, dull, and dumb about '70's "hard rock"singers (though Bad Company were a fine band, what with Mick Ralphs and all).

In my book Queen is overrated & Bad Company great
and Free even greater. For me Rodgers represents a great vocalist.
The "bland, dull, and dumb about '70's 'hard rock' singers-prize
goes to David Coverdale.

no disrespect man, although Rodgers has a good voice, i think he's anonymous and indistinguishable sounding.

Lou Reed, Dylan, Waits, Strummer- those dudes can't sing, but they got a VOICE- know what I mean? Like, a writers voice in literature. And they weird sounding too! (so is Jagger) Millions of dudes can sing like Rodgers, but it's not very unique. Says me in my dumble opinion.

Lots of talent all around, just seemed like a bad mix to me.

concur. Mercury isn't my cup of tea, but he was unique and fit the band perfectly.

Rogers did say at the begining it was not permanent and only for 2 tours. Queen should still carry on and find different singers for different songs maybe. Perhaps go on tour with 2 or 3 singers.

In my book he aint not at all any Best Vocalist no category whatsoever.
But he is a decent heavy rock singer, who never hot himself a suiting
environment.
Gillan might had been even less known than PR without "Gillan's" Purple.

To me, George Michael and Robbie Williams could have a chance.
I'd be curious to hear them on some Queen songs

Last Queen itself did of interest was Bohemian Rhapsody.
And that mofu of a song almost killed rock and roll.

would you stop it dude!

Ian Gillan is a silly singer! Deep Purple, as with many other "hard rock" bands from the era, were really good players (uhm, except Ritchie Blackmore, who is responsible for some really, really bad players to come). Too many embarrassing singers with good players, tho. One more reason to get into Coltrane's Quartet- no poofy singers to ruin the music!

Best Hard rock singer to come out of the 70's (apart from Robert Plant) is Ozzie, i think he's great and still pulls a good crowd.

Saw queen and paul rodgers last year, and, although a good singer, he was really boring (for me, similar to Mark Knopfler, also great, but boring live).

You like to provoke, dontcha?
For me its tough, since Purple was my idols since age nine back in 1972-73.
Everyone is of course entitled to an opinion.
But before one open ones biscuit hole, one should have heard a good
assorted collection of the objects's production imo.

Check this & then come back and say he is a silly singer!
(okay, he has always looked silly smiling smiley, but listen to the God-given voice!!)
