If anything needs a proper upgraded Vault release it's the Perth & Sydney shows from 1973 Australian tour. The Stones were a beautiful. incandescent rock & roll train wreck in these early 1973 concerts and they are easily at the top of my wish list...maybe even more than El Mocambo, lol. Those incredible boots from the tour...'Welcome to Australia', 'Black Strap Jacket

Quotehopkins NOBODY is so far ahead of The Kinks. I'll concede that...But on their best day the Kinks could never capture the feeling of sitting in a car, or on a beach, listening to California Girls or Good Vibrations, or a dozen of other '60'classics..."Sunny Afternoon' doesn't cut it. The Kinks are awesome, of course but the Beach Boys are somewhat under-rated.

Quoteslew I would agree that the Kinks are an under rated band. However in the pecking order: 4) Kinks 3) Who 2) Rolling Stones 1) Beatles Its just the way it is anyone who puts the Stones ahead of the Beatles is a personal preference me being one of them. They were all great in their own ways. That's very British of you.... I would put the Beach Boys and Creedence Clearwater fa

QuoteDandelionPowderman I wouldn't say HTW, LIV or SFM are better than the studio versions. Not even close, but they're still very good. It's a close call on HTW & SFM...I'd concede those two...but I'm confident that most would put the live LIV over the studio version any day...But boy, did they ever elevate the studio versions of all the songs to a whole other leve

QuoteMathijs Apparently the tape of the first ElMo show could not be used as the recording was full of static noises and hisses. It was the second show that was used for Love You Live. Mathijs I asked Eddie Kramer on his facebook page about the status of these 'lost tapes' and if they could ever see the light of day. Eddie is the producer/engineer who recorded the El Mocambo gigs

Quotedmay Hmmm...the baby boomer years are considered from 1946 through 1964, so what year is really the year for the average baby boomer to have been 16 years old? If you were born in 1964 then it would have been 1980 when you turned 16. The Clash, Elvis Costello, pink, disco, etc., would be the music of your 16 year old era. So, what year can we pick as the average baby boomer time? The pea

Quoteretired_dog It's even more funny that already as early as 1973, a german music mag announced the 1973 European tour like this (translated): "The Last Time? Old rockers announce what could very likely be their final tour!" And by 1976, they were already regarded as "dinosaurs" by parts of the music press! Lol...I recall a conversation with a friend when we were th

It;s hard to believe the band had been together about 13 years at that point. I guess What they were doing didn't have any historical implication in their minds just yet. Still, you would have thought that someone would have set up a camera to film it.

Quotewhitem8 Not much about their playing and the set list. That would be the stuff to hear from any of the 300 who were there. And how did they get away with two shows without the story breaking lose? News did get out for the 2nd night and loads of people tried to get in...I believe some lucky souls who knew El Mocambo staff slipped in for the show...

Is this going to be another 'missed opportunity? I'm sure it will be a big deal in Toronto come March with the building undergoing extensive renovations by it's millionaire owner and part-time musician. That and the fact the El Mocambo appearance is easily the best known club concert by the band makes it a 'no-brainer'. I hope they surprise us with something in the new ye
