Oh, for feck's sake! He was the founder and rightly deserves much credit for his role in those formative years and his role as a musician. However, it is Mick Jagger and Keith Richards who are responsible for their greatness and ultimate success.

Brian pretty much kicked himself out of the band.
I am a big Brian fan but he couldn't cut it any longer.

He was one of the founding members, Brian himself called it an amalgamation and that's exactly what it was.

Mick, Keith and Dick Taylor teamed up with the loose nucleus Brian had going with Stu and various other musicians.

Love Brian but his time of any worth in the band was until 67, and even 67 is pushing it. He should have had the balls to leave the band at the end of 67 and form the first western/world music hybrid band. Now, that would have been something and he would have continued to inspire.

Nah, he's still doing lots of good shit in 1967 and even in to 1968. tongue sticking out smiley

The best time to leave as far as spitefully damaging the band goes would have been in spring 1967 after the Brian - Anita - Keith shit went down. Given all the other stuff going on it might have brought the band to an end although I think Bill and Charlie would just go along with what ever Mick and Keith wanted to do.

Yeah, that Jagger convinced Brian to stay back then (as it claimed to have happen), was a damn wise move by him. Not that there had been the obvious image loss, but technically, having all those court hassles and whatever they had during the summer, they needed to have integrate a suitable - and convincing - musician to his shoes. More stress and uncertainty. Even with Brian, their future wasn't so certain at all back then. And trying to think what SATANIC MAJESTIES had been turned like if they still wouldn't have Brian there to give glimpses of his musical imagination and insight to Mick and Keith's psychedelia experiments?

But that Silver Dagger's idea of Brian's "western/world music hybrid band" sounds a fascinating scenario.

It was not the first time and wasnt the last time, it happens all the time that the innovator, the person who cut the path, lead the way, was pushed aside while others receive the long term glory money. It is an age old tale that is often repeated.

Imagine how many entrepreneurs that weren't really suitable as leaders there have been during the years...

Yes, so very very many... One whom I admire the most is Nikola Tesla. Everyone should know his story.

Without Mick and Keith working at and learning how to adapt their talents to song writing the band halts at being nothing, but an ace R&B cover band.

There's an OTT Jones fans phrase that gets used every chance they can - "No Jones, No Stones!"

The reality is no amalgamation, no Stones, no Mick and Keith song writing, no future.

Yeah, the whole music world changed quite rapidly from the initial purposes of the "amalgamation" (based on Brian with Stu and Dartford boys joining forces, and just wanting to play the blues), the least surely wasn't the impact made by these four lads from Liverpool. Of course, the impact hit them in flesh when Andrew Loog Oldham walked in.

I think that indicated he still had strong committment to the band, still had an emotional connection (perhaps deep down he still felt it was his band).

Or it could've been he was not ready to leave just yet.

Black Sabbath 28-11-2013 in The Ziggo Dome me in Amsterdam

Last Thursday, November 28th, I visited the concert of Black Sabbath in Ziggo Dome. Here was a super tight band with great guitarists "Tommy Lommi and Geezer Butler" and Ozzy as singer in this great acoustic space. Too bad about Bill Ward but Tommy Clufetos did amazing drumming. The band clearly had fun and Ozzy the comic performer played with the audience. I stood in a crowd with dancing and singing fans from young to old. What a Great show.
