soundtrack is from 1978 tour.

It means that the french radio were wrong (it was broadcasted the morning of the show). Are you sure it was 1978 and not 1981 ?

Thank you for your replies and interest in this topic.

My answer is : Yes sure. It was in 1981 when I hear this version the first time.

They are (at least) two explanations :

1) The french radio has broadcasted a 78'version from a bootleg. They were lying telling it has been recorded (the day before) in 1981.

2) The 81'version at the Madison is similar to the 78' version and this link on ebay :

has a 81'soundtrack on 78' images.

Does anyone has the bootleg of the first show in 1981 at the Madison ? And can make a report on the version of miss you ?

Here is a cool version which I was in attendance -

Stonehearted was there also (no connection I just know he said he was at the concert). Great connectivity with the fans!

Also Mickschix, if memory serves correct said she was there as well

I think I have the answer :

There were no saxophone, no trumpet on the 78' tour but in 1981.

Since there is no sax on the broadcasted version, it is a version from 1978 and not from 1981.

The french radio were lying.

Very fun to understand that 32 years later !! I should contact some lawyers...

I was at the Toronto gig a week before...was hoping to not get Miss You but when they played it I was glad they did.

While I think the warhorses are probably their best songs, they get old after repeat listens, but even worse if the band just goes through the motions because they're bored. This band was on fire, the performances were awesome and the old material sounded new again.

Yeah, I think they hit their stride midway through the abbreviated tour. Mick loosened up and reached a level of confidence that took the tour to a new level. I'm not saying that the earlier part of the tour was subpar; I'm just saying that they went from 4th gear to Overdrive from Chicago on-

Also- as many fans are aware, it is awesome to go to another state and see the Stones perform.

I've wondered why they haven't or didn't do another edit version of it with the lines they cut out - streetcars, sometimes I feel abandonded... that would be excellent.

78-81 absolute dynamite. one of their best efforts, ranks right up there. A classic.

Miss You was great back then. In later years there is too much crowd interaction, and it sounds more like a showpiece than a solid musical performance. Of course on the Bigger Bang tour they were on a small stage that gradually was moving farther and farther from the main speakers, which made it pretty did cult to play in a relaxed manner.

Worst version is the one with Justin Timberlake from the SARS benefit. Painful.

I've always liked the 1978 version off the King Biscuit Flower Hour, there's even some weaving going on!

Yes, it was a great show Boston 2. The show peaked early with the rarities part of the set list--for me the highlight of the concert was Memory Motel.

But I had no complaints about the set list and I certainly didn't mind hearing Miss You and Emotional Rescue in the same show.

However, I would agree with the OP that the '78 version really rocks, when the song was fresh and new and the boys were still youthfully lean and mean--and of course no one but Mick Jagger looks as cool just running about with a guitar without actually playing it.cool smiley

That's what we're all here for Treacle, to help each other out. Just for clarification, according to the official handbook, you are allowed to like the studio and live 1978 versions.

Where does the handbook stand on the "special disco version"? Or is this just filed under "G" for guilty pleasures?

The extended version is great - for the extended harmonica solo

Thanks winter! If we`re not playing by the rules, then we`re playing without rules...or something

Great live shows. Sometimes Breezy sets her washboard on fire at the end of the shows.

Why did U2 never call Mick and Keith on this. It's blatant.

When Love Comes To Town pre dates You Got Me Rocking by 4 years or so. Can you not see the lyrical similarity?

I googled the lyrics and couldn`t for the life of me see anything about butcher`s cutting up meat, so no, I didn`t see it.

When Love Comes To Town is way better than You Got Me Rockin'...one of their worst ever...only made even worse by Mick's awful lyrics.

One of their very few songs worth listening to again after Wyman left.
