Gotta be worth trying - would be a great venue to see them, the Watford Colosseum, 6 years ago, is the smallest venue I have seen them so far. Good luck everyone!
Hi MOWAT,
I was at that show too...so I'll use this as a lame opportunity to post some iffy photos,heh-heh-heh...
Dateline January 2002 when I first started using Ebay:more accurately the first and only time I've been ripped-off by someone else on it.
The Who (still with Ents on board) had announced three warm-up shows prior to their appearance at the RAH for the TCT:two at Portsmouth Guildhall and one at The Watford Coliseum. No,I didn't know there was one there either.
However buying tickets was mission impossible and then some,so I resorted to the mighty Ebay. You can fill-in the blanks for yourselves...I sent off a cheque to some kindly soul in deepest, darkest Wythenshawe (an interesting spot in South Manchester) and waited patiently for my Watford tickets to arrive.
Time marches on rapidly and in the meantime I'm lucky to get a single ticket that somebody returned for the second Pompey show which was unreal.Hurrah.Back home the next day and still no ticket and now no answer from this chap's phone either.Helpless with self-righteous indignation and £110 lighter to boot.@#$%&!
As a last ditch measure I ring the Coliseum's box-office and ask in a resigned fashion if he's got any returns.Bloke asks me where I'd like to sit:I stammer anywhere,as near as possible, just inside the building please.Bloke asks if stalls row A would do!I think I may have offered to pay the guys mortgage or similar such was my disbelief and joy.I don't dance round the house shouting as a rule,but...
Don't worry,we are getting to the point-slowly.The show was another blinder and the last time I saw the band with John.Audience-wise I've never been as close to PT as I was that Thursday night and I can still remember being surprised at just how physical that band was...JAE couldn't have played any faster,Zak really emptied the drums,Rog was ready to jump in to the crowd if the occasion demanded it and Pete Townshend was in another place at times.
Whenever he broke a string on his Stratocaster he shot his right-hand up instantly to let Alan Rogan know to hand over a freshly laundered red one. This happened on a few occasions and it was then that I noticed that there was blood all over the guitar's pickguard. It didn't stop or slow him down:in fact I'm not even sure it registered with him very much.Remarkable.
Anyway,I involved the police to try and sort the defrauding tool out.Surprise, surprise he had a history of nuisance crime and had recently cottoned-on to the possiblities offered to the unscrupulous by Ebay. They eventually refunded me almost all of my money too.Yeah,I was as surprised as you!
I can't help myself here-it is photo time from the pre-digital era.Always with the excuses!
If the O2 shows are half-as-fiery etc. etc....mind you,we've got to get in first!
Cheers,
Si
