Do you guy's think the Stones spread the stage too much, and should use a smaller stage to tighten the sound?

Well, I don't know what they should do, but I do like it when they all work within a few feet of each other and focus on the music.

The truth is, though, that they were known for the show as much as the music long before the stadiums, the backing musicians/vocalists and the pyrotechnics. It seems that bigger venues (and ticket prices) dictate an even bigger show. And it is a great show, of course, but it is what it is...

From 1999 until the BB tour the indoor stages became progessively smaller and from Steel Wheels through BB the outdoor stage area (including side runways) have become smaller (and shorter)...

Seeing that their stage is way beyond the size of my house...yeah, they could tighten up a bit. Do they really need all that room? I dunno - it probably doesn't matter anyway since whether or not the stage for the band or the staging in general would take up a lot of room anyway.

As Keith said when they started to play stadiums, "We were like lost sheep".

Would you really like to see them like that for two hours in a 15,000-seat arena?
Only if you had FOS seats would that be enjoyable.

I won't even consider a stadium show anymore, unless it's my only choice.
Seems to me like the arena stage is worked around a bit to fit the particular venue where they happen to be playing, and that's fine with me as it gives more people a chance to get a good look at them.

As for smaller stages, I'm still waiting for my first theater or club show.
As time goes by, though, the chances of that are getting slim.

Me too , I've had chances to see more intamate shows in the past but my physical limitations have denied me the opportunity .

Let's see some 1500 or less theatre shows next time around

absolutely. i wish they never play another stadium ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

in 2008, stadium rock sucks. to those who got to stadium shows, all the power to you, have a wonderful time. i won't be fighting you for a ticket so there will be plenty of seats availble, well nowadays there are plenty of tickets avaialble for stadium shows anyways, particulatly here on the east coast, usa.

A very good point IMHO.
The scale of the stage is obviously a function of their [Mick's ?] vision of a "Stadium show" but it has its drawbacks. The distances and complicated monitoring problems can certainly compromise the subtleties of timing whch are much of this band's magic.

smaller stages yes

on those huge stages they look like "krækiber i helvíti"
(=blackberries in hell)
i.e. it makes them so comparatively small

Not a fan of stadium shows... unless i can get to the front.

When I saw Prince at O2 with the stage in the centre of the arena I did think, 'How great to see the Stones like this'

I really dont think they are choosing large stages for them.
I think they are for us.

More people can be reached by long outstretched walks and it also doesn't look so overshadowed by the venue itself.

Think of it as a sports event.
The players run all over the field sometimes getting closer to your seat and sometimes far off.

Of course if your in the 3rd tier it didn't matter anyway...

That's the point I was trying to get across, and here's to hoping we'll see more smaller venues, if there is a next time around.

It's a compromise of course. A stadium show is different entity to a "club" show,
Each has its plusses and minuses.
