All the Dave Clark 5 covers were better than the originals. I wish they had done 'Da Doo Run Run' and Quarter To Three".

I always thought The Stones version of Ain't Too Proud Too Beg was better than the original. I haven't heard the AC version you are talking about but it's hard to imagine anyone outdoing Springsteen when it comes to that song.

As much as I dislike the Beatles, there are some great cover versions of Beatles songs:
Fool On The Hill - Aretha
And I Love Her - Bobby Womack
I Want To Hold Your Hand - Al Green
Also...
Light My Fire - Al Green
China Girl - Bowie
Respect - Aretha
Satisfaction - Otis
Heard It Through The Grapevine - Marvin
Also, cbtaco, there's no way Johnny Winter's version of HWY 61 is better than Dylan's - nor is the Dolls version of Pills better than Bo Diddley's.
Loog - I also prefer Aretha's Respect, but I don't think it beats Otis' by that much.
That version of AC is fantastic - don't know if it's better, per se, but it definitely brings a really nice flavor. Gotta love the Band
