I think its' attention seeking. It's ok if he doesn't like "Midnight Rambler" and its' ok if he says so, but to try and argue that is sucks to a bunch of people who obviously love it is "stirring the pot". This is the same person that posted the "Is Mick Jagger gay or bi?" thread. He started that thread by asking the question and then spent the next few pages answering it himself and trying to argue that Jagger was in fact gay. So who gives a f*ck if he doesn't like "Midnight Rambler"?

What is it that you want glimmertwin? Are you wanting to convince the rest of us that it sucks? I think you're merely wanting an argument, wanting to piss people off. Everybody has their own opinion and you're not going to change their mind if they like the song so why do you keep arguing this?

MR was a highlight of the 2006 Dodger Stadium show. My daughter, whom I have alwasys suspected of saying she digs the Stones because she knows what a big fan I am, was absolutely FLOORED by their performance that night. In fact, it was the most "dangerous" version I, an old verteran, have ever heard them play.... I no longer suspect her of paying lip service the the mighty Stones. She's a FAN, thanks to their performance of MR that night.

But her favorite Stones song is still Paint It Black.smiling smiley

I really like MR, but I have to be in a Rambler Mood. I dont have the longest attenition span & Listening to it is a big commitment.

God I love hearing it and live Woo Hoo.....Wooh Whoo.

On the other hand JJF I would not miss if they ever decide to pull it from the setlist.

What ever floats your boat I guess.

MR played live can put off all the naysers who say that the band has lost it. From the beginning of Keith ripping those chords to Charlie's last crash of that 11 minute musical journey...it's like the Stones giving one huge middle finger to everyone who whines about them being too old and useless.

Thats for when Im at home listening, they could play it live at every show, and that'd be just fine with me.

One "Rambler" version a day, keeps the blood flow going. In Sweden also known as "ståpäls". Thats right, ståpäls.

Knebworth 76 is half-way there! It's not in the great-category, it's in the absurd-section I'd say. Not as absurd as this thread though.

Maybe not overrated but I´ts kind of boring live.

Make it a short rocker and it would be better.

Try listening to MR on Definitve Belgium (73), and tell me what you think...

The many live versions of MR are all well and good, but the studio version fails to capture the vibe that the song is supposed to have.

CRAZY!
MNR is one of the most perfect blues songs written. Has so much going for it, and so many different nuances. Goes from fast, barrel house boogie, slow blues, and back again. And the lyrics are menacing and brutal...
GREAT SONG! ONE OF THEIR BEST!

It's not a "fact" that there's no day on IORR without a "Midnight Rambler" is great" thread. That would be 365 "MR is great" thread's a year.

bobo - that and ablett's buscuit and milk comment made me laugh out...

destroying every stadium show?? that's the most ridiculous comment i've heard on this board. that song is one reason i go see so many shows! if i bring a friend who doesn't know much about the stones, i pray (though i'm athiest) for that song in order to make sure the friend is thoroughly blown away - and they have been...

i just love mick on the harmonica,,,

Midnight Rambler is what they refer to in the Biz as a "Showstopper".

"MR" is as mighty as they come, but even more than most of the legendary songs in the Stones canon, it should be rested so as never to be merely routine.

When they broke it out in '99 after a decade's (North American) layoff, it was every bit the event that it should be. That can't happen when they perform it too frequently.

Think about how much "Sympathy" would benefit from some long rests...

Tumbling dice is a great song but after 30 years of playing it at EVERY concert it is now really boring. They should give it a rest because it is the same version since 1989 over and over again.

Midnight rambler definitely is a great song. But on an off night it can be performed sub-standard. Tey did the longest version back in 1975, clocking in at over 14 minutes!

However, the studio version is really boring. I listened to it just some days ago and almost dozed off. But fortunately they wrote that song because from the Hyde Park concert on when they palyed it live for the first time it has always been a highlight in concert.

Is this the thread where I can start a petition for Midnight Rambler All Over Europe This Summer? May I volunteer Paris for a Rambling Treatment?

(I almost hope I wont loose all my Nijmegen tickets in time and see myself forced to go, and double my Rambler-chances....)
