Does anybody else go wild for I Go Wild?
Date: December 7, 2006 06:51

I've been blasting this one a lot as of late; a real barnburner. Granted, I've always found it a bit cheesy (I used to call it 'I Go Mild' Cheddar), but what with the Stones being off the road and all, my standards may be slipping.

Anyway anybody else a fan of this little ditty?

I second the motion.

Been listening to it quite a bit too. It feels like a relative of an earlier song, but I can't pick which one.

I like it. A lot.

Kinda goes slack in the middle, but overall it's a great track with that big slashing guitar.

I Go Wild is one of the most horrid pieces of shit ever to be released from the Stones, surpassing even Out Of Tears as the worst song on VL.

This is headache-inducing, stadium Bon Jovi-rock at it's very worst, and it gets worse with every listen. The guitars are overproduced, the lyrics are dumb and underwritten, the drums sound HORRIBLE, and Mick sounds hopelessly lame all the way through.

This one sounds a bit too constructed and forced in my ears, You Got Me Rocking too...thinking of it, also Sparks Will Fly. Strange, initially I really liked the rockers on Voodoo Lounge, but after repeated listening they quickly wore out. The one I did not like initially seems to grow on me though - Mean Disposition.

Great song from one of their absolute best albums. Heard VL two days ago and it's right up there with Some Girls.

I love the album track... but was a little disapointed with the live renditions.
Some songs gain a little extra magic live, and some lose a little. I Go Wild fell into the latter category for me.

Good song not great but good - 2nd Division methinks.

Horrible, fake Bon Jovi stadium rock, from their worst album.

It worked very well during the VL tour.

I like it. It kicked grunge's ass in 1994.

Yeah - me too. I even have the CD-single with the four different versions on it ;-) (but then - I bought "Goddess in the Doorway" as well *lol*)

VL is one of Stones' major works if a little overproduced - I managed to get my hands on an alternative version without all the gloss - a different kettle of fish, my friends ;-)

And "Out of Tears" is one of their best ballads ever, period!

Agreed, but grunge died with Kurt Cobain IMO.

I Go Wild is a fantastic song, and anyone who doesn't like the lyrics to it, obviously doesn't like to do what the song is about too often. Me, I can't get enough of it so I LOVE the song.

Some Girls is a cool album by the naturally cool and eager Stones. VL sounds forced, desperatly rocking. trying to be the Stones of old. No wonder they hardly played anything else than YGMR on later tours from this album. They must clearly agree more with me than with Kent, themselves. Mean disposition is cool though, as well as the beauty of The Worst.

Not so much. However, I do admit to being impressed with the psychedelic jam / light show element when I saw them do it live.

Um, no.

If anything, Out Of Tears is the absolute WORST ballad the Stones ever did.

It's true that often the songs that I like the best upon initial listenings are the ones that I sour on later. Not the case with I Go Wild. I thought it was THE killer track on VL when I first heard it and I still think so. It was clearly the centerpiece song on the tour, as well. What's most surprising to me is that the Stones have accepted the vastly inferior YGMR as the signature/legacy song to that album. Unspeakable.

Disagree. It doesn't sound forced at all. If anything it sounds like a band that's very eager to prove that they could make great albums without Bill Wyman. They succeed in this very much in my very honest opinion. They had more to prove at this point than they had with Some Girls.

In general, I agree with this assessment.

Agreed. Its the same with Slipping Away being the signature tune off Steel Wheels

Slipping Away is a decent enough tune, though. YGMR blows! And, as I think about it, some of the worst stuff off ABB was what they were parading around on stage, too.....sigh.
