>> Does the Stanley Booth book mention if Mick Jagger was present at the rehearsal? <<

he mentions all the Stones except Mick, but he doesn't describe the entire session or say Mick wasn't there;
he does mention Tony being there. not that it had to be the exact same day as any of the photos you posted, but still:
we've piled up a lot of good indicators that he's describing that same place/timeframe.

Cool, thanks for checking.

Found them!

Ok, I think this one is from the Yellow Submarine premier.

This looks to be slightly later, not sure what he has in the box.

It's hard to tell if it is actually the yellow submarine.

I'm puzzled, the pics seem to be from different days!?

What a thread - I love stuff like this.

One aspect of Brian that seems to may have only appeared in '69 is the really big, bushy sideburns that go straight down the side of his face (ie no "lambchops"). What are the earliest photos of him with those? Did he have them at the Circus or in the American flag shirt Cotchford pics? It's hard to tell because of how his hair is combed/cut.

The 1969 M. Cooper photos (see page 3 of this thread) are probably taken in late March or during April. Why? According to Karnbach Ry Cooder is profable in studio with the Stones from March 23-31 and on April 24 (or similar). But there's no note of a recording session at Redlands.

>> no note of a recording session at Redlands <<

well, not every rehearsal was recorded, or noted down by any of the chroniclers.
and with all due respect to Karnbach and other "pre-digital" writers,
a lot more information has become available since their books came out.
that's one huge advantage of Nico's site: there are bits missing, of course,
but it's continually being updated as people come up with more fragments of the historical record.

As you say it's hard to tell from his late 68 pics...

Anyway his 'image', despite the ill health, is way coool for the TTPD sessions.

HM, could you let us know where you found Ethan Russell's notes about those shots we've concluded are from the sep/oct rehearsals, please and thank you?
and as long as i'm here: since Brian's trial ended september 29th, the session Stanley Booth attended must have been in october -
which of course doesn't rule out similar sessions in september.
Performance was apparently filmed from september 1st to mid-october, but
i don't know how much to read into the fact that Stanley doesn't mention Mick being at the rehearsal session he was at ...

The quote is from Ethan's site. smiling smiley

I guess if Mick managed to appear for Brian's court appearance, there's no reason why he couldn't do the same for a rehearsal/jam if he was indeed filming performance at that time.

The band could have played without Mick there, it's always a possibility. I've seen pics of everyone apart from Mick from this rehearsal.

thanks for the source of Ethan's statement, HM;
and right: they could well have gotten together to play without Mick,
or Mick could've shown up later than the others.

and as long as i'm here:
i've seen another shot from the David Frost Show set that forms a series with the black & white one i posted
and the colour one that HM (i think!) posted - Mick has Brian by the elbow and is real clearly dragging him into the shot.
if anyone knows the one i'm talking about, and could post it, that would be brilliant - please and thank you kindly

He looks so weird by late 68, I guess that final bust and trial really screwed him up...

I think thats slightly different one, there's another in that 'sequence'.

May 21, 1969. At a London harbour, later on they went to Russell's studio to do the "glass" photo shoot. But there are more shoots from the harbour; in one they all sit. It was used on an official Japanese LP.

Yes, there's lots of 'outtakes, I've seen some via the Not Fade Away - Geoffrey Giuliano book and various other places.

Come on Ethan, make a book with just these sessions! tongue sticking out smiley

i keep the question marks in there because Ethan Russell disputes that may date.
i'm sure he's wrong about dating them late 68, but that doesn't mean may 21st is for sure right.

Mathijs has said that Jagger mentions that the photo shoot was the last thing Brian did with the band with all the members present.

Re: Rockman, can you post the last known picture of Brian?

You are right, that picture was taken by Helen Spittal who was a friend of
Brian's. She promised him she would never let anyone see those pictures of him
I guess because of the way he was dressed or something I don't know. She showed
up at the last meeting of the fan club in July incognito sorta. She lives in
the UK with her family I think. When he passed she starting selling them.
I know a lady who used to correspond with Helen and said she was kinda hard to
get along with. So I don't know why she changed her mind and starting selling
them. The ones with him in the striped shirt and slacks(?) are the last ones
of Brian alive. What a horrible shame.

I think the reason Brian looks paricularly ill in the color shot by HerMajesty is some shadows under his eyes from something up above. He's not THAT bad off..

Some outtakes of the 21 May 1969 "glass" shoot at Russell's studio appear in Wyman's big photo book "Rolling With The Stones". On one of them Jones hugs Jagger?! (Was he drunk already in the noon??)

Ah - so cool!

Can someone please tell me the story behind the chair photo.
Why is Mick hugging Brian?
Was Brian F'ed up and scared when Keith did that?
Why did Keith throw the chair, just for fun? He looks very intense.

the chair photo is from the Ethan Russell THROUGH THE PAST DARKLY sessions.
I assume he was directed to do it by the photog. Brian probably got scared.

They seem to be having a lot of fun at these shoots, they're just messing
about for the photos.
