Rockman, can you post the last known picture of Brian?
Posted by: Estoneado ()

It might be the one depicted on Terry Rawlings' book, he had a striped t-shirt on. Unbelievable belly for a 27 year-old rockstar. Am I right?

The last group photos with Brian were taken by Ethan Russell on May 21/69. These were eventually used for Through The Past, Darkly.
There are also photos of him wearing an American flag shirt taken at Cotchford Farm. Not sure if these were taken before or after.

He looked better right before he died.

Weren't the last shots the really good ones where he is in the US Flag shirt?

Oh Wow Rockman,

I've never seen that photo of Brian before. That was a big shock actually, he looks older than I do, and he's still a young man. Poor guy, I know he could be a dick, but at the same time, I still feel badly for him.

He had everything and nothing.

A very sad sight... He was such a beautifull boy before the drugs destroyed his brain and looks. What a terrible, terrible waste. Just think about what he could have contributed with in music history if he wasn't so terribly self destrictive. Sob, sob.

On his site, Ethan Russell says the American Flag pics were from '68, though it looks pretty warm out in those pics and Brian didn't move to Cotchford until Nov. '68 or so, right?

For the record, Russell also credits the Through The Past Darkly shoot as '68, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Nice link, BofB - great to see all those pics compiled together. The message board there is, um, interesting as well. It's nice to read that Mick & Keith are now behind the "Stoned" movie to continue the cover-up of their roles in Brian's murder. Or something.

They can't be from November, December 1969. I think April or May 1969 - look at the vegetation and his hair length (similar to the May 21 Stones photo shooting).

"I thought I saw somewhere also that the photosession of Brian sitting cross-legged on the floor blowing up balloons with toddlers around were the "last" photos taken of Brian. I think some of those pics I saw on the Rocks Off Brian photo thread."

this comment was posted at the voy.com site concerning Brian's last photos. Does anyone have these pics or a link to them?

The "balloon" photos steam from the Through The Past Darkly 21 May photo session with the Stones. All band members changed their clothes in between, so this topic is a bit confusing.

Ouch.

Those are some scary photos of Brian. Very sad. And I thought he looked horrible on the Buttons album cover. It got a lot worse, didn't it?

The most incredible one in my opinion is the one taken from the side and you can actually look at the size of his belly (see www.voy.com). He is standing beside the lifesize statue of Christopher Robin, wearing the striped t-shirt. It is very hard for me to believe those statements such as "he was getting better just before he died". I mean, look at the pictures. I think it might just be a subconscious denial mechanism from those who cared for him. That usually happens when these kind of stories are either too sad to bear or people feel somewhat guilty.
Thanks a lot for the pictures Rockman.

Yup, I agree. He worsened til the very end, depressed because of Anita and the band pushing him out for so many years. He said life on earth was hell just before he died. Of course people felt guilty, why wouldnt they. I mean some of them, like Anita, Keith and Mick.

I think Brian looks more clear, and relaxed (if detached in band shots) from '69 than late 67 and 68 -- better than the BB era photos and R&R Circus...I do agree Through The Past is pretty clearly '69, not '68 - I mean the hair gives it away for each of them...No "Performance" black on MJ anymore, Keith's got his quintessential 'do perfected, K's mascara, Charlie's hair got real long in 69 etc...

This (and two more known photos) seems to be taken by 18 year old friend of Jones', Helen Spittal. Shot on June 12, 1969. See the book Golden Stone by Laura Jackson on page 200 f. for the whole story.

So these shoots appear to be really the last known pictures of him.

This scary photo supplied by Rockman above (two more known photos from this "session" are known but are unavailable at the moment on my link above - www.voy.com) seems to be taken by 18 year old friend of Jones', Helen Spittal. Shot on June 12, 1969. See the book Golden Stone by Laura Jackson on page 200 f. for the whole story. He looks much better on the other two, by the way. It depend on if he deeply smiles or not.

So these shoots appear to be really (!) the last known pictures of him.

Brian died in July. He did not look particularly happy or well at the time.

There was no reason for Mick or Keith to feel guilty. Brian was more weak than cool. He hurt many, many people. He couldn't get his act together and was a nightmare to be around in his last days with the Stones.

There were several women in his life after Anita. She had little reason to feel guilty. Life does move on. Or haven't you ever broken up with a girlfriend? Or watched her move away from you?

It's easy to look back now and paint different pictures, revise the facts. But the truth is as I described it.

So what? She @#$%& Keith in front of Brian. There was a power struggle between Brian, Mick and Keith which Keith fought too and he won. No doubt about it. I'm pretty sure he has felt guilty.

When did that happen? I never heard that story. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I can't imagine Keith boinking someone in view of other people, he always seemed very shy back then, (Anita probably didn't care who saw her, if I looked like she did, I probably wouldn't either).

Indeed, Brian did not look well in '69. However, by then, I don't think it was the drugs that were doing him in, rather it was too much booze and lounging around. A steady diet of beer and brandy will make anyone fat. I am 100% sure that Brian, self-conscious as he was, would have snapped out of it eventually and made some drastic changes in his life had he not died. He probably would have looked at old video clips of the band and thought, "What the hell have I done to myself?!"
