I think we should not judge a book that is not released yet!! At least it will probably include great unknown photos.

Wow I never have seen such a frank summation by Brian himself about the whole "loss of leadership" thing re. Stones. He is definetly 'on'. Hope it really is by him.

There is another picture of Brian in, I think, Scaduto's book on Jagger from '73 which purports to be the last ever taken. He is wearing real hippy threads & I think it's more likely to be from '68. Do you have this one Rockman?

Tseverin, is it the pic where he stands with his hands kind of folded?

Thats from 1967, around about the time of Monterey.

I believe Anita says it's his "last professional" which is, well, bollocks, in a book about Michael Coopers stones photos. smiling smiley

I have discovered more photos with Brian that can only be taken in 1969:

One is from the same day as several pictures above (see his clothes and hair); in: T. Rawlings/ K. Badman, Good Times Bad Times – Definitive Diary, don’t know which page at the moment. Some of the photos above appear there too, plus shoots of the other band members at the same occasions.

Two more with guitar in: Michael Cooper/ T. Southern, The Early Stones, 1992, page 73. These are more interesting because it is from another session. Poor Brian looks like a depressed carp.

Can anybody upload them?

By the way, it is interesting to see all these 1969 pictures with Brian on guitar, partly from different sessions. According to the information in the Karnbach book he appeared only twice in the studio in 1969; Karnbach listed no contribution by Brian on guitar at all in his last months. The session on March 6 (prior which two of the photos above were taken - those with Suki) is not listed at all. I believe he played on at least 10 sessions in 1969, not tho two Karnbach maintains.

It is pretty stunning that we know now more photos of Brian in the first half of 1969 than from the 2nd half of 1968! (Excluding the dozens of Rock And Roll Circus shoots of course!)

Bill mentions in his Stone Alone that Brian as at a recording session as late as may.

There's no way Brian only appeared twice in 6 months at Olympic! There's enough photographic and other info out there to disprove that.

Karnbach and others sure cover a lot, but it is by no means definitive.

Yeah, that's what I think. Karnbach has a lot of information, but could not include all sessions with all persons that appeared, because he didn't know everything. It's a pity that we don't know the exact dates at which most photos were taken (only exception March 6; May 21 Stones Photo session; see my comments above).

There's plenty out there, many from his September court apperances, a few from the autumn 1968 rehearsals, a couple of him and Suki at the Yellow Submarine premiere. The pics of him on the grounds of cotchford.

The stones, as a band. weren't really doing anything between August - early November. Mick was filming Performance, Brian recorded the master musicians of jajouka and prepared the album for release. I think Charlie did his People Band jazz album around about this time as well.

I had it as well, the date it was issued ties in with the anniversary of his death etc.

it's not really that strange that there are more photos from early 69 than from late 68 -
the band wasn't very busy (as a band) in the autumn of 68. the release of BB had been delayed;
Mick was making Performance; they were only in the studio like two days in the last three months of the year;
and (of course) they weren't doing concerts at the time. in early 69 they were working on LIB
and laying groundwork for a tour, and they jumpstarted the publicity by inviting a bunch of photographers to the studio.

Yes, you're more right than me, maybe. But there are lots more Brian '69 pictures than I expected. I know at least eight shoot from the September 1968 court appearance; horribly pictures - he looks worse than ever on some of them.

But I have never seen - at least I can't remember - a photo of Brian attending the Yellow Submarine premiere.

The classic Cotchford "US flag T-shirt" photo session seems to be really from late 1968, not 1969 as I believed a couple of weeks ago. The plants in the background look like RIGHT NOW, late November-December, not Spring of the next year. The hair cut is comparable more to RnR Circus than to the 1969 pictures of Brian that we know. The photographer seems to be right: 1968.

Must be by Cooper, although this shoot is not included in his - highly recommended - book. By the way, this 1969 session was at Redlands, not Olympic. The length of Richards' and Jagger's hair (and Watts' on other pics) make it impossible that these pictures are from 1968.

I never heard of "autumn 1968 rehearsals" or do you mean "RnR Circus rehearsals"?

What year did Brian grow the beard? Did he have any kids? (i'm probably the 1% on this board that doesn't know the answers)
