Just got home from the gig, heres my review:
Audio:
Horrible. For the first 4 songs we couldn't hear nothing at all.
Not only on the golden circle but everywhere as I heard from other peope in different sections of the venue.
It ruined the show for me from the very beginning.
Constant calls for volume were yelled at the staff with no results.
We started hearing jinda better after about 10 songs in the show, still I coul dhere the person next to me bumming smokes way better than the band.
At a certain pint I rushed to first row and got hold of a PA technician and told him about it, he couldn't care less.
Set-list:
We finally got Midnight Rambler and that is something, way better than 2003.
I was really impressed by Con le mie lacrime così, Mick's a true entertainer, he trooped through the song even though 65.000 people were laughing their asses off, Keith included.
I coulda used some other songs in place of SFTD and IORR but it was a fairly good setlist.
Band's performance (0 to 10):
Mick Jagger: 8This man's got huge balls, a real pro as usual, during Midnight Rambler he looked transfigured to me, as if he were 25 again.
He kind of f**ks-up on SOL because the audience started too early to sing the refrain
Keith Richards: 4Horrible, I hate saying this as he's always been my favourite Stone, but enough is enough.
He makes a
LOT of mistakes, he completly forgets the lyrics and chord progression to BTMMR, I mean, with SA, is the only song he has to sing.
Completly f**ks-up on about 1/3 of the songs and on SFTD plays a solo even a 5 year-old could play.
I think that rather than coming off the palm tree he sould come down to Earth
and understand that we pay money to see him play like we like him to and not to see him on stage just to see him.
He would deserve an extra encouragment point for saving Mick's life right before SMU.
Mick was strolling on stage dangerously close to the flame throwers on front-stage and Keith called him and told him: "Mick, careful, this one's got fireworks". Mick realized how careless he was and smiled back, looking quite worried.
Ron Wodd: 5 1/2He is not to be heard throughout the whole show due to bad audio and bad playing of his, still performs a killer solo on YCAGWYW.
Charlie Watts: 6Some minor f**k-ups but basically an ordinary performance.
A special mention to Lisa Fisher, stealing the show on TNITRT, with a nipple slip out of her shirt
Stage:
I really liked the streamlined backline, seems like Ronnie and Keith have cut down on amps on-stage.
Color changes near the on-stage seats were awesome.
The moving stage wa sa very bad idea, basically anybody in the pitch could only see roadies going back and forth carrying guitars and the back of the band's amps, at least they coulda show them on the giant screen.
Ass-licks:
They showed Italy's winning goals at the World Cup before YCAGWYW and then brought Del Piero and Materazzi on stage after the band's final bow, the stadium exploded with chants for our national team.
Conclusions:
I am very sad as the thought of never going to see the Stones again has been ricocheting in my mind since the lights came back.
Keith is in no condition at all to perform up to is standards.
I'd rather know him enjoying a much deserved retirement, doing some shows every now and then than seeing him in the condition he was tonight.
On the 28th I'll be in Paris and I do really hope that this opening show was born under a bad star and that they will give me a chance to reconsider my thoughts of tonight's.
