What’s next for The Rolling Stones in 2025?
Posted by: NilsHolgersson ()

With the Rolling Stones' 2025 tour now officially cancelled, many fans are wondering—what’s next for our favourite band? While it’s a disappointment not to see them live, Mick is known for keeping busy.

There are already rumors and speculation about possible projects in the works. Could we see:
- A Hackney Diamonds follow-up album with unreleased material?
- A Hackney Diamonds “Making Of” documentary giving us a behind-the-scenes look?
- A Black and Blue Special Edition reissue with rare tracks and live recordings?

There are people on here who know a lot of rumors—what are the rumoured projects? I really want to look forward to something!

The "Making Of" documentary was apparently finished but they didn't find anyone to buy it so it stayed in the can...or maybe more work was needed and they needed a buyer to put up some funds so they could justify finishing it. Either way, it seems the ship has now sailed for this project.

That's sad.. I thought it could be a nice way to capture the magic of its creation. An in-depth look at the recording sessions, featuring Mick, Keith, and Ronnie in the studio, working with guest artists like Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Lady Gaga. Exclusive footage of Charlie Watts’ final contributions, unseen interviews, the struggles and triumphs of making their first album of original material in nearly two decades, the energy of their secret club performance, the excitement of the album’s release, and the fan reactions worldwide. It could also feature highlights from the Hackney Diamonds tour, showcasing the energy of new songs like "Angry," "Sweet Sounds of Heaven," and "Whole Wide World" performed live for the first time. Then, the climax—Grammy night. The band, after six decades in rock & roll, wins Best Rock Album in 2025, proving once again why they’re still the greatest. The final scene: The Stones raising the award, with Keith Richards smirking, “Not bad for some old geezers, huh?”

If I calculated correctly, the promotional period for hackney diamonds ends this April. So technically they could release a new album anytime after that, I imagine.

I think they have at least one more song featuring Paul McCartney in the can, and I believe there's probably another track with Dua Lipa too. They probably would want to get that out there, especially if it turned out good.

It's my opinion there might be really good songs in the can that didn't make hackney diamonds because they didn't fit the feel of that album. So maybe there's a possibility that the next album will have a distinctly different overall vibe.

A combined “Making Of” documentary for Hackney Diamonds and its successor.

- A Black and Blue Special Edition reissue with rare tracks and live recordings?

The BAB 50th anniversary is in April 2026.

It is?

I didn't count October 2023, I started counting on November 2023. It still seems to me that the end of April 2025 would mean a little over 18 months had passed since the end of October 2023.

The first installment was the broken glass ad in August of 2023 but the single wasn't until September 6. Late August 2023 - February 2025 = 18 months.

And, not to be a downer, but the Stones could've released a new album because UMG's promotion isn't a law of technicality - the Stones will do what they want.

No one tells the Stones not to piss anywhere.

Is a (delayed) late summer /late autumn tour in Europe fully out of discussion? I remember in 2017 the tour starting in September was announced in May (following false rumours of an earlier start in that year)... I still keep on dreaming on history repeating...

Hope for a tour or some shows in 25. This is only thing I really want. If this won't happen a new album is welcome ofcourse, but I am just not over the dissapointment of the summer tour.

there were rumours on the old thread about the possibility of reschedule dates for the fall

they could go into the studio this spring finish off the album and premier some of the songs on the fall tour

then release it at the end of the tour

don't know how realistic this is but i can hope

In England 'maths' makes perfect sense. The subjects (plural) of counting numbers, measuring, and describing the shapes of objects' are known as mathematics, shortened to maths.

However - google says - Both "math" and "maths" are correct, but which one is used depends on the region.
"Math" is the preferred term in the United States and Canada, while "maths" is preferred in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia.
Since "math" and "maths" are both abbreviations, they can't be considered right or wrong

But Mick doesn't like it when the audience is super passive during brand new ('unknown') songs.

It really isn't. We say Maths in the UK, where the English language comes from.

As mentioned above, I was really hoping for autumn dates as everyone seems to be in good health. I think someone cited a Spanish promoter that the deadline for pulling that together is April. All we can do is hope

If not, I say let’s move on and get that album out there and put something together for next year. Fingers always crossed

well they could release a single or two ahead of or during the tour so people get a chance to hear it first and get used to it

but also we're talking about europe (probably) where hackney diamonds did noticably better then the united states and where audiences were much more receptive to them playing something like out of time unlike the us where they were so bored mick had to drop it

so i think the european audiences are gonna be more receptive to new music from them that there not familiar with then us audiences
