It's a bit disappointing, I've just compared JJF on this release to Jumping Jack Flash from a novice at the actual show and Keith's guitar doesn't hit you nearly as hard on the new release.
Sure it's still brilliant but it doesn't capture that sound you get from Keith's guitar when he's on fire, it's powerful and it vibrates and booms straight into you.
Keith definitely mixed low on this release.
Here is the comparison from a spectator filming the show.
JJF 1.29.45 [youtu.be]

No, he isn't. Ronnie is mixed low smiling smiley

Keith is loud throughout. Are you listening to the vinyl, Riffie?

Listen to the two versions from my edited post, clearly Keith's power from the live show isn't captured on the release regardless of how good it sounds on vinyl. I've noticed this from just about every live release from the Stones, Keith's power seems to get diminished on the releases, that's why i have to see these guys live.
What is actually pushed right up in the Mix is Micks vocals.

i really love the sound on this one

one of there best sounding live releases in a long time (not a high bar sadly) even with some problems (micks a little high in the mix)

i hear what you mean with keith on jjf he does loose some power when compared to the audience recording (your right about keith losing power on official releases as opposed to audience recordings i wonder how much of this has to do with stereo versus mono mixes)

but i've been listening to and watching this show for years and this to me is a rather minor issue in what is a otherwise fantastic release which exceeded my expectations easily

my god this looks great they really look fantastic on film as opposed to digital cameras

yes the splits screens are annoying but not the deal breaker to me that some seem to feel they are

i watched this and then immediately watched the bluray of the fonda show and while i think the performance is better on the fonda show the video quality and sound are noticeably worst and i really like that one too

question to those in the know how many unreleased shows from the 90's onward have been shot on film as opposed to tape or digatal?

The album did not enter the UK Top 100, it was #41 in the midweek ranking but once all the pre-sales were computed, it did not sell more and collapsed at the end of the week. It sold less than 1900 units, which is what the 100th album on the chart sold.

Previous release Live At The Wiltern ranked at #95 in March with 1,700 units.

Although Hackney Diamonds might have gained a few younger fans it probably sent a lot of older long term diehards packing.
The Stones trying to sound relevant to younger buyers was about as successful and meaningful as Mick's solo albums.

Hopefully they bring back Don Was or Chris Kimsey.

At this stage Steve Jordan could probably do a good job, he knows Keith more than anyone.

Yep, it's true. Crosseyed Heart is brilliant me thinks.

Regarding Shepherd's Bush I haven't received the CD/BR yet but each way I must wait until after Christmas to watch it as I then must buy a BR player coz I figure they'll get cheaper after boxing day. It's a shame they couldn't be arsed to release a DVD version as well this time around. The end of the world is getting near, that's for sure. Or do DVDs not handle split screens....?confused smiley

You'll be glad you bought a Blue Ray player when you've got it.

Get a decent one . [It'll make your DVD's look and sound better too]

I watched the film last night and was surprised about the sound.

For my ears the film sounded more dry than the CD which got too much reverb.

Am I wrong? Do we need an audio rip?

The 4k- Edition is not much better than the Blu-ray Edition. I've bought both, the 4-K Edition has not any major quality advantages in my opinion.
You can't compare it with current 4k productions.
..., but I like it! Yes I do!

As far as I’m aware, publicity was minimal in the U.K. I knew about it through this forum, being on the Stones’ emailing list and YouTube because I’m a hardcore fan.

Anyway, it wasn’t exactly the finest show they’ve ever put on.

You would not think that if you were one of the lucky few that were at the actual show.

Yes, it's only visible in the splitscreen scenes. And I even think they added the splitscreen to justifiy a 4k release. The original source is 16mm. That's not the best source. 35mm would be far Superior. Or imagine they'd release outtakes from the IMAX film in 4k. That would look amazing.

Nice one Spud! I didn't know that! Just ordered 90% of AL Pacino's output on DVD so then I might save the film lessons for my far too young special lady friend until I get a BR player.... smileys with beer

It won't make your DVDs look like Blue Ray discs... but the players have certain "upscaling" and enhancement software which perks up your DVD picture quality quite nicely.

That's weird. BRIDGES was an attempt at being modern, in places, which some might think of as "trying to sound relevant", but I don't hear anything on HD that has anything like that going on, it sounds like The Rolling Stones. Everyone I've personally talked to loves it.

Yes, HD is a pretty good Stones album. Bridges was great too.
Compared with DW and HD is a stellar production.

Final charts debuts for UK and US:

UK: #125 on the Top 200 albums (1,503 units)

US: It debuts at Current Album Sales chart only at #46 with 2,200 units, far away from the 8,900 units for the #200 album on the main Billboard 200 chart.

Wow! So, comparatively, this released faired ‘better’ on the U.K. chart than Billboard.

I would like to know what kind of stream Amazon offers in the USA and the UK. Is that the Blu Ray, 4K or is it a standard DVD quality? If one buys this streaming version, can one burn it as a DVD?

I WAS at the show standing at the front. My hopes were for an even better experience than Brixton where they blew the roof off the joint.I had a good time at the Empire but it wasn’t as good as Brixton or other Stones concerts I’ve been to.The deep cuts could have been better chosen and Keith seemed to have taken something that didn’t exactly improve his playing.

To be clear, I’m not saying Shepherd’s Bush is rubbish but something was lacking.
This is all subjective and merely my humble opinion.

It's in HD on Prime Video: [Amazon.com] , [Amazon.co.uk] . But it's in 4K on [TV.Apple.com] , [TV.Apple.com] .

Via VPN (e.g. free UrbanVPN extension for Chrome browser) you could try to access the TV-Broadcast (in Full HD) by 3sat. Links in the 1st post of this thread.

Or buy the BluRay disc and down-convert it to DVD via DVDFab or similar software.

Watched over half of it last night on a 27" screen. Basically I was impressed, and not as much split screen action as I expected. I'm happy with the release.

'Let's Spend The Night Together' probably in 2025 and the 4K-filmed 'Havana Moon' maybe at some point in time.

Really enjoying this for the most part, but I'd never heard that take on Moon Is Up before, and it's a completely different song practically. They could have done something much simpler and it might have worked better.

That is both correct and incorrect.

I'm in Australia and last weekend following urging and encouragement from Rockman I set about sourcing it. I tried the usual places (JB etc) and drew a blank.

We have an Amazon Prime account and at that stage I tried the .AU site and also failed. But I decided to try the USA Amazon site. Not only did they stock it, but they offered a URL to the .AU site where it is clearly listed and I was able to buy it with modest shipping costs. Total about $50 for the DVD/2CD version.

The order was placed, it was sourced in the USA, and it's on it's way, due here very early next week.

In addition to my previous post....

If, like Matt Lee, you dislike doing business with Amazon, then go to this URL and buy it from the more reputable Rolling Stones themselves.

[therollingstonesshop.co.uk]

Don't let them bounce you to the .AU site (it ain't there at this typing) and then postage to Australia does work and makes it about the same price as the Amazon route.
