The general sound of Shepherd’s Bush cd is disappointing. Is it a little better on blu ray or 4K? We can hardly hear the bass. It was about the same for Rolling Stones Licked Live In NYC; and Live At The Wiltern. The Stones play great, but the mix and the mastering are not good.
For instance, compare the quality of the bass, on GRRR! LIVE, or EL MOCAMBO 1977. The bass is fully present.
On EL MOCAMBO 1977, it is a real pleasure to listen to the sound of Bill Wyman’s bass. It was mixed by Bob Clearmountain and mastered by Stephen Marcussen and Stewart Whitmore. They all did great jobs. Thanks to them.
The sound of Shepherd’s Bush cd is sub-standard.

I just compared JJF from Shepherds Bush to Newark on Spotify and I must say the Shepherds Bush mix is by miles better than the Newark mix. Yes the Bass is heavier in Newark but it's missing any dynamics. For me Shephards Bush is the best sounding of all vault/archive releases besides the El Mocambo which got an extra treatment.

Keith with his fwanky usual 3 note wonder of shit guitar lick.
Yeah lol whenever Keith does not know what’s going on he‘s just noodling around with that 3 note lick

It's now on too many live releases! Was attempting to figure out when he started relying on that strangling and I can only come up with 1989-90.

And yet, 1989-90 was arguably Keith’s peak; especially with soloing.

I absolutely loved this.
One of the best archive releases. Superb versions on JJF, YGMR, HTW, Saint Of Me, Brown Sugar, You Got The Blues, and of course the rareties.

It got some great unpredictable moments like Charlie breaking his snaredrum head, Mick and Keith sharing jokes, Ronnie giving drinks to the crowd ect. That made the show loose, but musically not loose at all.

I truly find the 97-99 period as one their best.

Well, then, if arguably is how you really want to present it - Keith's soloing was in the mid-1970s, arguably with Honky Tonk Women, as presented on LOVE YOU LIVE. His last excellent/really good solo. He did solo nicely in 1978 and 1981-82 with that song. His solos for IORR have been all over the place, bizarrely, but it's obvious he's not one of those kind of guitar players.

Ronnie is. Can be. Was. Can be.

Of course Mick Taylor but he's not on point here.

Keith's not a "solo" guitarist but he has had his moments, live and on record (She Was Hot is really nice LP wise).

But the comment wasn't about his soloing, it was about his bullshit licks that he throws in various songs, the same lick, no matter the song. Amazingly, a lack of depth. The same neck strangling 3 notes no matter the key.

At least he's been consistent.

Keith's Sympathy solo from Tokyo '90, edited to perfection on Flashpoint is an 1990 high point.

Nice to see that Chris Kimsey was involved on Welcome To Shepherd's Bush.

Regarding Keith-solos, this one has always been one of my favourites:

As far as the sound quality is concerned, Shepherd's Bush is surprisingly good. Many other vault releases are unfortunately catastrophic, especially Miami 1994 and Wembley 1982. Of course we won't get those Guitars in Your Face mixes from 1969-1982, unfortunately ... So even songs like Saint Of Me, which should have some AC/DC guitar power treatment, are rather disappointing, always have been... But overall I'm very satisfied with Shepherds Bush.

He's credited as engineer on the gig in 1999, the way I read it.

Brand New Car is a sloppy mess but somehow it still sounds great. Only the Stones could pull off a stunt like that.

The Blu-Ray is a frustrating, annoying watch because of the split screen effect. It's constant, and in every song. Totally ruins the experience for me, it takes you out of the gig and feels really jarring. I'm watching on a 77" screen and find it too distracting.

Returning for a refund. Really disappointed. Whoever edited this ruined it.

I like it‘s, it‘s fun to see multiple Stones members at the same time and decide who to watch. However I don‘t need the „mirror“ split screens. Luckily they don’t appear to often.

I need to give it another chance. So many people loving it can't be wrong. Had a absolute blast today listening to Wiltern, but maybe this one will grow on me.

Re the split screens, a Blu-ray has the capacity for this to be optional and it should have been IMO.

The drums sound fabulous on everything that Chris Kimsey engineered or produced, especially the snare.

First thing I looked for, unfortunately it's baked into he footage. Even during the talking between songs the editing flicks between 1/3 and 2/3 cutaways, split screen etc, it's like someone discovered an effect on their first day of work.

You know the way the Leeds footage would've been brilliant if it wasn't so tightly cropped? Same deal here. Would've been incredible if the editor had laid off the effects. I'm gutted about it, was really looking forward to this release on Blu Ray. Zero interest in it now.

I think Moon is Up is great. It would have certainly grown into a great concert song had they given it the chance. The instrumental guitar sections of the song and the break down in the middle with Charlie's snare hits especially work well.

I'm a bit pissed about the sound of the record. Way too much reverb on everything and no character.

Unfortunately Mick loves reverb and having his voice front in the mix. El Mocambo has this problem as well. Sound of love you live is far better!
But despite of this I'm glad they released it finally....

The big difference is that with Leeds it's the original production where they needed zoomed picures for the screen they had over the stage. They couldn't do anything about it in post production. Here with Shepherds Bush it's an artistic decision. Maybe they wanted to add some Woodstock flair or whatever. But they added it in post production. And that's a really weird decision.

It's really strange that Mick loves reverb on live recordings but when playing live the Stones have a very dry Sound. Especially Mick got no noticeable reverb or effects on his voice. Live His voice is way louder than the rest of the band so I quite Like it when it's done on live recordings too.
