I think Moon sounds bloody brilliant, Ronnie’s a bit lost but the rest of the band are on fire, especially Keef!

So is my impression, too. The bluesy structure of the song is more prominent on this live take. I'm very satisfied with this.

If Robert Johnson writes about bluesy structures there must be truth in it.

Moon is up sounds horrible!!

I like MOON here, it´s fun. It´s not perfect but considering that they played it here for the first time live - well done. I mean that´s what club gigs are all about: rarities, risks and fun.

That´s a great gift!
Some thoughts:
It´s all about the rarities, I don´t care about the war horses

- Some girls: Best official rendition, better than San Jose and very much better than on the Shine a light movie

- Melody: Well on the bootleg it´s a trainwreck, Keith noodling and the middle part- oh dear. I don´t know what they did to this, (maybe some AI Quantisizing?) but it sounds great now. RacketClub comes to my mind, where the audience-vids on youtube offer a mostly unrehearsed sounding band. In contrast, the live album sounds groovy and dynamic. And no, it´s not about the sound quality.

- I got the blues: I guess, there are three released live versions: Marquee 1971, San Jose and this one. Shepards Bush is easily the best one for me. So great!

- Brand new car: The studio version is boring and flat. This one has life and spirit. Love the horns!

- Moon is up: this is the highlight for me. Some claim, it would sound horrible. No! It´s a hidden gem.

- You got the silver: I hoped for a perfect version. It starts great but after half of the song, Keith looses his Mojo. San Jose version stays best but far away from perfection.

- Route 66: Great to have a latter day version that rocks!

Low point: Honky tonk woman - oh no not you again ;-)

All in all a little dream of mine came thruth. A pity that no one except us die hards cares anymore.

For 4K: a TV screen or projector or computer display with a resolution of 3840x2160 (or higher). Plus an appropriate 4K-Player or streaming device (Amazon FireTV 4K or AppleTV 4K).

And of course a 4k Blu Ray player which is quite expensive.

You forgot my favorite Version - Fonda 2015. The only version where they got the tempo right. On Shephards Bush Keith starts in the right tempo but Charlie speeds it up again.

No, they're not that expensive anymore .... ca. €150-€225.

Compared to a DVD/Blu Ray Player it's expensive. And for this Release it's not worth as 16mm film is limited and you'll only see the differences in the splitscreen parts.

DVD/BR-Player are €75-€100. And then it's a personal judgement as to whether it's too expensive or not.

Real nice listen on Spotify. Standouts to me are Before They Make Me Run, Respectable, ADTL. Need to listen to Moon Is Up a couple more times. Not sure how I feel there

I’m listening to this Shepherds Bush Moon is Up, now. You know, it’s quite the ‘pop tune’ underneath some of the more unusual sounds and Ronnie’s country-style guitar. With its commercial chorus, I could easily envisage Moon is Up as an Andrew Watt production and fitting on Hackney Diamonds.

Anyway, this live rendition: it’s good!

The song itself is pretty mediocre. And then the performance is also mediocre.

I gotta say - as much as I like those experiments of rare songs - when HTW comes on and the audience is cheering, I feel the blood rushing though my vains and my heart beating faster. As much as people like to hate the warhorses, there is a reason why they are the most popular songs

Just watched it last night. Amazing release for sure. Great DTS audio mix and the split screens don’t bother me a bit. Keith is on fire snd it’s great seeing Charlie in top form. They all seemed to be having a blast which came out in the performance. Thanks boys and more archive sets like this please!

I listened to some of it today on Spotify and was really disappointed by the mix...the vocals just seem "pasted" on top, on rare songs like "Moon Is Up", Mick seems lost and wondering what he's doing there !

LOL Melody is a bit of a wander - Keith with his fwanky usual 3 note wonder of shit guitar lick.

Moon Is Up was way better than the studio version - regardless of them getting lost!

Yes the vocals are a bit loud but at least the general sound is pretty good this time

Very good release. Nice sound, and I get why Ronnie is hard to place in the mix.

He's doing fantastic stuff on Some Girls that deserves to be higher in the mix, but also playing really poorly (All Down The Line). However, the main problem for me is the sound he (or the guitar tech) is choosing on the different songs. It would have been so much better if he just boosted up his sound with a pedal when his solos start, for instance.

Seems like they just kept Keith high in the mix throughout and gave us some small doses of Ronnie now and again.

Highlights: Shattered, Brand New Car, Moon Is Up, Melody, Route 66.

5/6

Not too bad this release, and I actually like the new songs best. But it must be one of the worst gigs Ron Wood has ever played with the Stones. Strangely his runs on Some Girls are great, but just about anything else is just really, really bad....

A nice listen for a couple of times, then to be lost in space and time.

My thoughts on the show:

- the Some Girls tracks really cook. "Shattered" is one of the best versions of a song they often failed to come close to nailing and gets the show off to a great start. "Respectable" is excellent, and "Some Girls" features smoking guitar from both Ron and especially Keith, who I think is on fire for the whole show.
- probably the weakest selection of rarities for any club show they ever did. "Melody" and two Voodoo Lounge tracks aren't exactly the kind of deep I like them to dig, but I digress. I will say "Moon is Up" is a really good band performance, especially Keith and Charlie.
- "Saint of Me" is a great live song and should still be in rotation. A proper modern day Stones banger that gets the crowd going.
- the warhorses cook. "It's Only Rock'n Roll" sounds vibrant and kicking and the run at the end has a vigor to it that these songs have often lost.

Overall, a very worthy release with great sound, although I do think the San Jose show they released is a much better representation of this era.

It's been a while since I last listened to the San Jose release, but I do recollect it being excellent. From what I remember, I do think it a better performance than this theatre show; and I concur with you: it is a much better representation. I think Shepherds Bush has a particular allure due to the venue and the - understandable! - nostalgia many, here, have for that night in 1999. All in all, though; it is a worthy release, and very enjoyable, too.

I'm listening now for the First time on spotify.

Lots of bass. Weird that this seems to differ in opinion. Really heavy (too much)

Also not a great gig for me. See some love for Some Girls. For me it's sloppy with sloppy lyrics. I got the Blues way to fast.

Not sure what it is but not really liking the 1999 Stones Sound.

The general sound of Shepherd’s Bush cd is disappointing. Is it a little better on blu ray or 4K? We can hardly hear the bass. It was about the same for Rolling Stones Licked Live In NYC; and Live At The Wiltern. The Stones play great, but the mix and the mastering are not good.
For instance, compare the quality of the bass, on GRRR! LIVE, or EL MOCAMBO 1977. The bass is fully present.
On EL MOCAMBO 1977, it is a real pleasure to listen to the sound of Bill Wyman’s bass. It was mixed by Bob Clearmountain and mastered by Stephen Marcussen and Stewart Whitmore. They all did great jobs. Thanks to them.
The sound of Shepherd’s Bush cd is sub-standard.
