is this the shot you mean? on Ethan Russell's site it says it was taken at Winterland,
which is where that onstage shot of this mysterious sunburst Tele is also from.

Found this 1981 photo of the rosewood telecaster - the grain of the wood is clearer in this shot.

i was just watching the Checkerboard Lounge 81 DVD again (thanks to HalfNanker for the inspiration) -
is that the rosewood Tele Keith's playing in that? it looks black most of the time - but so does that rosewood buddy, in a lot of shots.

these great shots that the good Mathijs has sent me don't really fit this thread,
but they dosn't really fit any other thread either, so ...
part of Keith's guitar rack - from the Licks tour? or the current one?
(the second shot was apparently taken in Las Vegas.)

thank you kindly Open-G! and back to the "less common Tele" theme ...
Mathijs has identified the guitar in this shot: Keith with a ThinLine Tele in 1969!
i am absolutely charmed. :E

I sometimes wondered whether Keith ended up buying all those himself. Whatt do you reckon ?

An interesting point about the rosewood Tele's too. The very first prototype rosewood Teles were indeed very heavy...to the point where it was perceived as an issue. Subsequent ones were partially hollowed out to save weight. The body was sliced into front and back halves and the inner faces routed. A number of these later had problems because the wood hadn't been seasoned as well as it should have been, and warped a little...causing the sandwich type construction to de-laminate.

... all those what, Spud honey?
meanwhile, thanks for the interesting historical detail. seems like the rosewood Tele idea works better in theory than in practice.

Sorry ;^)

I was referring to all those Fender Custom Shop replicas that Mathijs mentioned.
[It's an industry legend [or myth ?] that Keith was responsible for inadvertantly inventing Fender "Relic" guitars when he sent some new guitars back to them to be made "more beat up looking". The Custon shop never looked back ;^) ]

Fuji Gen Gaki, who make Fender's Japanese guitars released a "Micawber" copy a couple of years ago. I don't think many were made though..and it wasn't an especially accurate take on KR's number one.

This story is told by the custom shop self. I don't know what's true about it, as the art of relic-ing was done already before the Fender custom shop was opened.

Fender Japan actually offers Telecaster that closely resemble Keith's Tele's: a '54 Tele with brass saddle and Schaller tuning pegs, a '67 sunburst Tele with brass saddle and Schaller gears, and the '72 Custom with Schaller gears.

If you look in the booklet and on the back of of the Talk Is Cheap-album,is it the rosewood telecaster we see with Keith´s right hand laying on it?

Kind regards

Keith must have a number of these sunburst Telecasters,as he for Tumbling Dice, and sometimes JJ Flash after 1994 use one capoed in 4th fret, and one capoed in 5th fret for You Can´t Always Get What You Want,Like A Rolling Stones and also for Little Red Rooster in 1989 I think.

These are all the same '67 Tele. Check out the scuff mark below the volume pot.

I'm pretty sure that Harrison's rosewood tele was auctioned last year or possibly the year before. I seem to recall it fetched about $750,000 though I don't know who has it know.

Sure? On Btb tour he used this for Like A Rolling Stone capoed in 5th fret on the B-stage,and 2-3 songs later a similar Tele is used for Tumbling Dice on the main stage,so the guitar must return from the B-stage somehow?

But this lovely 67 sunburst Tele,is that the same Keith used for She So Cold,All Down The Line,Honky Tonk Women and Start Me Up back in 1981/82?

Yes, it's all the same guitar, and the same one he used on the 81/82 tour.

Tanx Mathijs for the info - do you know anything about the yellow and/or cream-Tele w/white pickguard and rosewood fretboard he used for i.e Saint Of Me,Flip The Switch and The Last Time on the BtB tour 97/98? I´ve also seen this Tele in a clip from 1988,where Keith is playing Whip It Up at some kind of awards-show?

it's not from the video per se, but it might be from the same phase of 86.

Thomas, there's a bit about the Anderson (not Henderson) Cobra in the thread called "Keith's custom jobs and other oddballs"
(or something like that) that you can find in the Guitar Thread Index; you can find the index by doing a search for "ratbag boogie".
if memory serves, the Anderson website is in the thread somewhere ...

if you mean Ratbag Boogie, it's named after two of Keith's dogs,
making it the coolest name for a guitar thread index in the whole wide www.
there's tons of great information in the threads, thanks to iorr's resident learned patient generous & good-lookin Guitar Connoisseurs,
