I hate to say it but the Mick Taylor today sounds like shit!

I doubt your statement.
It's just dumb.

and utterly OT

A few simple Mick Taylor fills would have elevated most of the songs...but they probably just don't want to talk about him any more...too bad...

The thing about Taylor is remarks like "I heard he's sick' or "he would dither too much" or "I think he's suffering from Ditherer's Condition" are meant as quick responses to shut up the press. They don't make headlines. They're not meant to satisfy the diehard fan at IORR or other boards. We get it. Taylor was a special guest for the 50th Anniversary and they let it ride for an extra year and then there appears to have been a falling out over money with his management. That's no different than what has happened to Billy Preston in 1977 and was part of the reason Ian McLagan was finished in 1982. It's a business. Our emotions as fans become projection that either makes Taylor the bad guy who quit or embarrassed himself because he was overweight and danced or actually soloed and improvised a bit or make Jagger the bad guy for not recognizing Taylor deserved millions and a public declaration of his value to the band and the others are guilty for spreading falsehoods or their silence. At the end of the day, it's a business and the decision was Mick Taylor, like Billy Preston or Ian McLagan, isn't The Rolling Stones.

I'm very much looking forward to this album! I enjoyed the RS Cover Story and can't wait to start listening on friday.

By the way: Do you know if the whole album will be published on Spotify on friday as well? I am currently in the process of putting together a new record player and music system, and that might not be ready for the new vinyl by friday..

As they say, the print won't change!

What do they mean when they say that? I've never heard

You've never heard that? If you can't read or listen or can't finish reading or listening to something, it doesn't matter - the print won't change.

My heart always sank a bit when the idea of a blues covers album was floated - the risk of it being a bit lame and an obvious 'end of the road' release for the Stones was huge.

But from what I've heard so far - only 3 tracks I'll admit - I was totally wrong.

They are totally on fire and in the moment, it's not at all forced. Blue & Lonesome is a joy to listen to... just like Plundered My Soul, it reminds me what I love best about the band.

For once I am Happy to be proved wrong ;-)

I kind of get the idea that this guy hasn't even heard the album! Light on specifics, heavy on quotes and already published stuff.

Got praised in the Wall Street Journal today.
I don't usually see album reviews in that paper, so the Stones publicity machine is doing its job. The review might as well have been written by the Stones publicity people, too.

Pre-release records are sent out with Press Releases. And loads of press use wording directly from the Press Release. Not uncommon. Also, regarding the comment above, Rolling Stone doesn't need to review an album to rank it on its chart.

Rolling Stone magazine's rankings and reviews are questionable at best.
It's difficult to trust anything they write as their credibility ranks at about zero.

Any review is just one opinion. I didn't think year end lists were necessarily based on the publication's review. They're likely ranked by different people.

The album finally leaked online, a great covers album, Mick on vocals on all the tracks, Charlie's drums are so cool on some songs, I'm still listening now by second time.

Charlie is great on Ride 'Em On Down!! Do the guitars shine on the slower cuts George?

Agree, the magazine seems to have their own agenda on many fronts. Very biased and they certainly have their favorites whom can do no harm - at least in my opinion.

Commit a Crime is a real standout, great drums on that one, strange fade out with a lot of echo but it works great.
Blue and Lonesome is amazing too, evil and mean feel all over it, fantastic.
Little Rain is Mick at his best on the whole album, his vocals are fantastic on the first half and then an amazing harp until the end, is an unique song on the CD, almost like the only blues ballad on it.

The rest is great but nothing mind blowing, two uptempo songs as I Gotta Go and Just Like I Treat You, both Clapton's songs are classic blues stuff, very similar but with great guitar solos, All Of My Love is a bit repetitive for my taste while Hoo Doo Blues is like a cousin of Blue and Lonesome with Mick singing on lower level, great guitar work here.

My Top 3:
Little Rain (9/10)
Blue and Lonesome (9/10)
Commit a Crime (8.5/10)

No song is under 5, I'll rank the album with a solid 7 - 7,5
I'll rank Mick's work with a 10, he shines, what a fantastic vocal and harp work.
