Paul Trynka is probably too kind and of course he is right about The Stones disgusting attitude towards Brian. The realistic review is probably 2/5. Keiths album deserved 1/5.

Keiths album deserved 1/5...?
You're hard to please or did I get something wrong ?

It is not a good album. You wouldnt give it a chance had it been released by someone other than KR.

If I heard Suspicious, Trouble, Lover's Plea, Nothing On Me, Heartstopper or Blues In The Morning by another artist I would certainly have paid attention and wanted to hear more.

If CROSSEYED HEART had Leonard Cohen singing on it instead of Keith it would've gotten a hell of a lot more attention and praise for how good it is. Only an idiot would think CROSSEYED HEART sucks. It's excellent. Sure, it's not great like EOMS or ABBEY ROAD or LED ZEPPELIN 2 or DARK SIDE OF THE MOON great but it's an awesome LP from a dude who enjoys playing.

Rather OT here but yes I've grown to like this album, I think the opening "song" hurts it though, it distracts from the rest of the tracks. Suspicious is the obvious gem but I really like "Robbed Blind" too now, the music but also the lyrics, something I generally don't pay much attention to.

Anyway thanks for sharing the Guardian review, some good well written points, the reference to Keith's RS interviews is pretty funny too ;-)

Since I have the 10" single on order I guess it's ok for me to go looking for RED now...

Thanks for the hint, georgelicks. thumbs up

thanks a lot

no it does not do much for me but at first i love what charlie's doing

i will put this on the same level of jyf, some good exercise by a good band of blues lovers. hate to see you go has something more. overall i still have good vibes for the upcoming album. wont use the skip button much i think though there will be average stuff for sure. for example i cant hear in this track the mick that is receiving high praises in the reviews. i found his vocals quite phoned in. charlie's stunning though.

The german edition of the Rolling Stone has in his December 2016 issue a 10-pages special about The Rolling Stones.

There's also a review of the new Blue & Lonesome album - the editor gave 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Review from the german edition of the Rolling Stone (December 2016, p. 46):

DAS ALBUM
Keine Overdubs, keine Prätention: Die Stones verneigen sich souverän

The Rolling Stones
Blue & Lonesome * * * * 1/2

„You put poison in my coffee instead of milk or cream“, argwöhnt Mick, zum bestätigenden Gequengel der Gitarren.

Dark side of the moon is 2/5. Overrated and boring.

German issue of Rolling Stone Magazine mini-review Translated (from above):

He does not know a better harmonica player than Mick Jagger, says Keith Richards. "He does not know how damn good he is." Whoever mistrusts Keith's praise for his congenial sparring partner, considers her to be euphemistic or even exaggerated, is emphatically instructed here. Jagger's state-of-the-art harmonica improves every track of these live herds of thanks to her old heroes, live without overdubs in London's British Grove Studios within three days.

To Howlin 'Wolf, for example, whose grim "Commit A Crime" is as awesome as all the other songs, equally unpretentious and free of pretension. "You put poison in my coffee instead of milk or cream", suspects Mick, to the confirming quiver of guitars. Little Walter, the Harp icon, whose "Blue And Lonesome" was the godfather for the album title and whose "Hate To See You Go" of 1955 was also retained in its rhythmic substance, with Charlie Watts in the track of the stylistic chess -Drummers Fred Below. The highlights of the completely unceremonious sessions are, above all, the slow cuts, such as the lascivious "All Of Your Love" with profoundly booming strings, or the percussive "Hoo Doo Blues", which would not be unlisted on "Exile On Main St." , Between "Hip Shake" and "Casino Boogie".

More outstanding is Jimmy Reed's romantic "Little Rain", thanks to Mick's soft voice color and the gold-sized portion of Hall. Just as Jagger's singing remains pleasingly poor in mannerisms, never pressed or rushed. Eric Clapton, who once followed the path of the Stones with the Yardbirds, plays on two tracks, but does not do much harm, while Keith and Ron's dueling guitars celebrate the blues as a dionysian celebration. I'm excited. As Mr. Radtke asked... Can you elaborate a bit on it's ...sound, and vibe?... As well .. What 'makes it' redeemable?

My impressions are that is it is rough edged, rock based blues.. versus being something more textured or refined in sound. Is that so?

Those other two songs (Just Your Fool and Hate to See You Go) that we already knew are great, but this one is better than those, imo. I was trying to find the lyrics to this new one and I've found some that don't have anything to do with it (like this one), so here's my attempt on it, based on this one. The words marked with * are the ones I'm not so sure about, but here it is. Corrections and inputs are welcome.

Yeah!
I'm a dealin' man, still dealing, yeah
I'll go keep on dealing till I find myself a bed.
I got to stop dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down.
Well I done stopped dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down.

Yeah!
Raised in the country, darling* raised in town.
Got two kids and they're all look like mine.
I got to stop dealing. I believe I'll ride 'em on down
Yeah, I got to stop dealing. I believe I'll ride 'em on down.

Yeah!
I'm dealing darling, by another* deck.
Seem like somebody gonna take my shit.
I got to stop dealing I believe I'll ride 'em on down.
Well, I done stopped dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down.

Yeah!

(guitar solo)

Yeah!
Born yesterday and not a day before.
Here you come knocking at my door.
Done stop dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down.
Well I done stopped dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down.

Yeah! (harmonica solo)

Yeah I done stopped dealing; I believe I'll ride 'em on down.

Cool intro-lick by Keith.

The Mojo review grants the new one 8 of 10. It also cites Little Rain as the highlight Keith's album was a small miracle at this late date. More than three magic ones, maybe five or six.

Have you heard the album, Teddy?

I have not. I guess I haven't really looked to hear it early. I'm good hearing it next week and am optimistic about it.

Oh, then it was Uncut that gave the album eight out of ten. I read both the same night.

It seems to me that Keith Richards decided to try and create a vibe and situation and sound that would allow Mick Jagger to shine. Not to say that Mick doesn't love this music and wasn't considering this direction, but that Keith and Ronnie and the group worked more to create a space for Jagger to sing and play harp in a fashion where he felt comfortable and real, and did little to push their own egos by playing standout stuff. In other words, a great little band and their unique frontman.
