That version of MY is not a train wreck; it's not like it's riddled with mistakes or anything. It's just that MY live has become way too slick, perfection at the expense of feeling. The studio version was a masterpiece. Much more than disco, it also had elements of soul, blues, and rock mixed in. It made you feel something. In 1978 and 1981 it had some magic on stage. Since Steel Wheels, like a lot of things, it lost it's feel to the harsh master of perfectionism. Some songs just suffer when a band tries too hard to recreate the studio version. Just my opinion but many Stone songs have lost something at the altar of studio replication.

Definitely not just your opinion.

Mick played blues harp on "Miss You" when he played it at the White House in 2012.

Well indeed he did a harp solo in the middle part but thats not what i talked about. Jagger plays rythm guitar where he could play the sugar blue harp

Even when they do seem to put some work into a warhorse at rehearsals it seems to misfire. What I love about the original version are those harmonies. One of the few times the Stones stacked some beautiful vocals on top of each other. And it is THEIR vocals too. With all the firepower on stage they can't seem to get even close today.
Another is the Bass. W/o getting into a DJ debate, his sound doesn't have the warmth. They try to take a short-cut, and jst get the Bass issue out of the way by adding a Bass solo. IAW Rollin92 thumbs down to Bass solo.

Bass solos do not belong in Stones songs. I think when Daryl does it, as technical as it is, it sounds out of place and tacky.

I LOVE the original but Miss You was never good live imho, not even in '78. It would be interesting to hear different outtakes of the song because I think Miss You is one of those magical cases where everything falls into place at once.
The bass, the vocals, the drums...they're all great, but I think this song features some of the best guitar weaving ever. The interplay between the guitars is fabulous! With the electric piano too, some brilliant stuff happening there.. Those things are very difficult to recreate, particularly live. The song takes up a completely different vibe on stage.
And Charlie. I love those little things he does, like skipping one snare hit in the middle of the sax solo (3:14). So simple, so effective.

I think that it was quite good in '78 , at least on some nights. I can't say every night because I haven't listened to every 1978 live CD in years but,I know that there definitely are some great performances of "Miss You" from that year.

Aside from that,it seems like many people are forgetting the rare 'Licks Tour' performances of "Miss You". They only performed the song at four or 5 shows on that tour out of around 117 shows and they were just about the only non-1978 performances that I consider to be listenable. The version from Italy 2003 on,I believe, the Godfather Records label is probably the best of them. Not too long, dragged out,and boring as other modern live versions are. Clocked in at just under 6 minutes if I am not mistaken. Succinct, crisp delivery in comparison to "Miss You" performances on other post-Wyman tours.

It was good in 1981/82 as well, imo.

I have had a blast with Havana Moon CD that crowd powers the band
and 'Miss You' being out of order gives it a
kind of down to earth flavour
anybody seen my baby?

At the White House his harmonica performance on that track has been quite underwhelming, to be honest. Strange, because I think he's perfectly capable of playing Miss You's harmonica part properly.

For me, it has been since VOODOO LOUNGE. I love the song, but they don't do it justice. For it to work, I need to hear guitars carrying the song with the keyboards. For 23 years it's been Chuck's big moment with Keith and Ronnie playing around the edges. Keith did the same when Paul Shaffer played it at the 9/11 benefit. It's a real shame. I loved the song in 1978-1990. It used to be a highlight of the set. Mick and Charlie still give it their all and so does Darryl, but it just isn't the same without guitars. The Rolling Stones are supposed to be a guitar band. You wouldn't always know that on stage.

The good thing about this footage is that the guitars don't screw it. That helps.

Just stick with the album version and the amazing original 12" disco single version.

Nah, they just need to let the guitars rule the arrangement and really swing again. Charlie still nails it. If Keith, Ronnie, and Darryl really clicked together, then Mick would also rise to the occasion "like he used to."

I have a ticket for this. Not sure what to expect as never tried an 'immersive cinematic experience' before! However, it's local and cheap (compared to a real concert ticket) so thought I'd give it a try..........
I've made a playlist of the concert just to get me in the mood......

In case anyone is interested, this event has been rescheduled from 24th March to 7th September, and the venue has changed from Maidstone Studios to somewhere called Troxy, East London (some 37 miles from Maidstone!), with no explanation from the Promoters.

I am trying to get a refund from SeeTickets, the rescheduled tickets are actually cheaper than the ones I bought for Maidstone, and they seem to be offering me the refund based on the cheaper tickets, less booking fees. Not acceptable SeeTickets!

Blimey eye rolling smiley !

It has to be said that over 30 quid a ticket is somewhat on the steep side when you could see the real thing for similar last month with Lucky Dips.

Is Septetmber a mistake (as many people say) or is it just a musical pun?

I can't see any reason why it would be. That sentence should read: "I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be."
