Hope to purchase either DVD or BluRay tomorrow; is the BluRay as good as people saying in this thread; some said its mono and some say stereo but overall seemingly the best bet.
I exchanged my mono-blueray for a new one and it is stereo. It seems that I was the only one who received a blueray with mono audio, it must have been a problem with that particular disk. I didn't read about anybody else with the same problem. The new disk with stereo audio sounds really great. Sorry if I was confusing anybody..

I discover new thrills every time I watch this. To my ears, SFTD actually has some life to it for a latter day change. Love Charlie's drum improv in the intro. Keith's solo is nothing great but I've stopped expecting much in that department. As I've said before, Keith is much more the Keith that I love here than in most modern day performances since 2012. Even the warhorses that have sounded on auto-pilot in many cases sound fresh and enthusiastic. And yes, the joy of the Cuban people is a joy to behold.

Defective DVD- Havana Moon
Posted by: mickschix ()
Date: January 8, 2017 19:31

I was wondering if anyone else has a defective Havana Moon DVD. I received this wonderful book and DVD set as a Christmas gift and about 1/2 way through it skips all over the place. I tried washing it with mild soap and wiping it as directed and it did help a bit but it's obviously defective. My other DVDs play just fine. I'm about to have my friend who bought it for me return it to Amazon but before I do I wanted to see if there are other bad copies out there.
Thanks!smoking smiley

No, you've got a collectors item over there.
Keep hold of it.

BowieStone, it may be a collectible but I'd like to be able to PLAY it all the way through. I am returning it for a new copy. Amazon pays return shipping. I hear the price went up over $20 since Dec when my best friend ordered it for me. Anyway, I hope when I get the new box set, it is not defective.

I've already posted about how much I enjoyed the film, but now I just got the CD and I have to say I love this performance even more. I had become a bit jaded about the latter day Stones; many performances since 2012 have sounded too similar to me but this Cuba gig a is a real treat! Coming at the end of their South American tour, it shows how a good run of gigs loosens the band up to get the cobwebs off. The songs sound like they have some new life to them. That's the best All Down The Line in a long time and Keith really sounds more like Keith Richards than he has in a while. I can only hope they all stay healthy enough to continue touring. They need to tour to reach their full potential and it would be great to see them again after a good warming up. To me, the performance in Cuba displays more of the Rolling Stones that I love and remember more than anything I've seen in a long time. Sweet Summer Sun was good but Havana Moon is great! Conversely, the Desert Trip gigs showed why they need to tour rather than just do handfuls of gigs. They need time to get firing on all cylinders. One minor point and maybe it's just me: It seems that to my ears the sound quality and mix of the film is a bit sharper and crisper than the audio only release?

Keith in Havana Moon

I finally took the time to watch a Havana Moon the other night. Did anybody else feel that Keith sounded terrific in You Got The Silver? He made it sound effortless, even hitting the higher notes, and he sustained those notes. I was surprised at just how smooth he sounded.

I also liked the slowed-down pace of Midnight Rambler.

I think the whole Band sounded on fire and was really pumped UP for this big special show .Keith was most certainly ON in his set and the entire show .

I was thinking about starting a thread like this myself. Indeed, Keith is in very good form in this concert. His playing, to me - sounds much more vital and present than a lot of other recent performances. I guess being recorded at the end of the tour, he was well warmed up. I'll look the other way as far as his "corrected" OOC solo goes...smiling smiley

Really a beautiful performance on YGTS. Weird though how he stayed in low gear the second to last chorus. But he definitely killed it in the last chorus.

The Hyde Park Sweet Summer Sun version of You Got The Silver get's my vote.

Havana Moon 7/10 versus Sweet Summer Sun 9/10 (8,5 for performance + 0,5 for the crowd sing-a-long, and maybe because I was there)

I haven't watched Havanna Moon yet for two reasons, first I heard Out Of Control and Keith's playing made me feel bad, then I listened to Jumping Jack Flash and noticed how immensely slow it was. I will just try to forget this release. I'm sure the other 2016 shows were better so it was probably just a bad decision to release this at all.

Rolling Stones’ ‘Havana Moon’ To Shine In China

The Rolling Stones are breaking new ground yet again, with the news that Havana Moon – The Rolling Stones Live In Cuba, the film depicting their historic visit to the country in March 2016, is to have a theatrical release in China.

Global distribution company MusicScreen and European-Chinese distributor Pannonia Entertainment are to partner on the release. The film, directed by Paul Dugdale and produced by Eagle Rock Entertainment and JA Films, records the huge free outdoor concert in Havana that made the Stones the first band to undertake such a show in Cuba. It received a one-night theatrical release in cinemas around the rest of the world last September. It then became available for download and streaming exclusively on the Starz network app.

“We are proud to be teaming up with MusicScreen to release this visually and orally stunning concert on film,” says Klaudia Elsässer, founder and managing director of Pannonia Entertainment. “It recreates one of the most exciting and timeless moments in music history for the Chinese market, and will be screened in the unique China Film Archive’s central cinema in Beijing.”

MusicScreen, specialists in bringing music concerts to cinema, have already distributed Havana Moon to more than 1500 screens throughout Europe, Australia, Russia, Japan and Latin America. “It’s great to be working with Pannonia and a real achievement to have Havana Moon screening in China,” says MusicScreen CEO David Pope.

Mr. Li Tao, award-winning director and manager of Central CFI Cinemas, Beijing added: "It's amazing that the Rolling Stones could make this revolutionary trip to Cuba and [give] a marvellous performance to Cuban people. I wish the Rolling Stones could come to China sometime in the near future. I was impressed by their energetic and professional performance. They are the superstar as always. It's really nice to have them on the big screen. I appreciated very much to bring the film to Chinese audiences.”

Is it just me or was that a bit of a train wreck?

For me, it has been since VOODOO LOUNGE. I love the song, but they don't do it justice. For it to work, I need to hear guitars carrying the song with the keyboards. For 23 years it's been Chuck's big moment with Keith and Ronnie playing around the edges. Keith did the same when Paul Shaffer played it at the 9/11 benefit. It's a real shame. I loved the song in 1978-1990. It used to be a highlight of the set. Mick and Charlie still give it their all and so does Darryl, but it just isn't the same without guitars. The Rolling Stones are supposed to be a guitar band. You wouldn't always know that on stage.

That version of MY is not a train wreck; it's not like it's riddled with mistakes or anything. It's just that MY live has become way too slick, perfection at the expense of feeling. The studio version was a masterpiece. Much more than disco, it also had elements of soul, blues, and rock mixed in. It made you feel something. In 1978 and 1981 it had some magic on stage. Since Steel Wheels, like a lot of things, it lost it's feel to the harsh master of perfectionism. Some songs just suffer when a band tries too hard to recreate the studio version. Just my opinion but many Stone songs have lost something at the altar of studio replication.

The version was actually quite normal except for Mick being time-shifted starting at "we come around at twelve".
Bit I agree to HonkyTonkFlash that it's a bit lifeless these days compared to older versions.
And IMHO it has to do a lot with Mick's singing - in the past he used to shout
"it's just some friend of mine that say HEEEY!!!! WHAT'S THE MATTA MAN, WE'RE GONNA COME AROUND AT TWELVE WITH SOME PUERTO-RICAN GIRLS THAT JUST DYYYYYYIN To MET YA!!!!
And nowdays it's just "hey" insted of "HEEEEEY"
If you know what I mean..
Guitar-wise it's actually pretty good IMHO, especially compared to the messy versions of the ABB-tour

Re: miss you - havana moon

I completely agree with this Rambler the song has lost its feel and is way to long today. It just does not have the beat it use to and is a lapse in momentum in the shows today.
Also, it is played at every show they need to let go and find another "anthem"

Bass solos do not belong in Stones songs. I think when Daryl does it, as technical as it is, it sounds out of place and tacky.

I think someone brought up recently that their shows aren't that much shorter than they used to be but they play way fewer songs because they drag out the "warhorses". I think its easier to do it this way considering their age.

Mick is timeshifted so this is in fact kinda trainwreck. I prefer hyde Park.
Matts Synth harp is back in havanna what's ok for me. A pity thats Mick Never tried to do a real harp. Too much respect to Sugar blue? Second pity: they should have given the Bass solo to bill in the old days...
Anyway i love the totally stripped versions with hot Lisa.

Mick played blues harp on "Miss You" when he played it at the White House in 2012.
