Oh man, this feels weird, thinking of him dead. I had no idea he had cancer. I wasn't really a fan of his, but he was such an icon... I'm sorry for any of you who are grieving him

His son confirmed the news and a statement was released on his official social media accounts.
"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer," it said.

The first concert I attended was David Bowie in 1976. I never realized he was that ill. I thought he was on a comeback. A very reflective moment.
Thoughts go out to Erik Snow, he was always a huge fan and often talked of Bowie on this site.
