If you were going to get a female singer for this tribute wouldn't someone like..I dunno..Bjork been much closer to the spirit of Bowies music? Maybe Grace Jones if you wanted to go surreal....
Im sure Gaga was no worse than Taylor Swift or Gwen Stefani or Beyoncé or any other pop culture contemporary but ....
As a huge Bowie fan I can tell you I can't think of too many contemporary artists closer in spirit to Bowie than Gaga. Certainly far more than Bjork or Grace Jones.
I didn't love the tribute and thought it would have worked best as just 2-3 songs but I'd glad it was Gaga that got to do it.
How is Lady Gaga "close in spirit" to the artistry of David Bowie? I don't dislike her. I think she is quite talented and an interesting and eclectic performer but also a bit of a media whore. And she hasn't grown much as a recording artist in the last 5 years.
And you don't think Bowie was a media whore???

That time she did 'Gimme Shelter' with The Stones, while dressed as a Zebra, was quite possibly the funniest thing I've seen on stage.
It wasn't meant to be, which made it even more hilarious! How did Charlie keep a straight face?

Cringe-worthy cruise ship karaoke cabaret....Bowie probably would have gotten a chuckle out of it....

My band, the Amazing Mongooses, joined forces a week ago with some other Atlanta musicians to form a one-off tribute, called DIAMOND DOGS: A Tribute to David Bowie
Our entire first set was the Ziggy Stardust album, recorded at the Tin Roof Cantina.
Enjoy!

Good for DB that he wrote better songs after this one

There are some great photos in Geof MacCormack's book Station to Station with Bowie playing left handed. And strangely a picture of him wearhing a Theta Chi shirt! That is a US fraternity.

Its genuine, if it is the same photo, him wearing a blue shirt with OX on it, playing a nice hollow body Gibson. Bowie's also wearing a cap. I am not home at the moment to take a photo and share, but I will later.

Ok, I am home now and looked on page 182 of From Station to Station by Geoff MaCormack, and he is NOT playing left handed! I am wrong. I had it in my mind for some reason. But he is playing right handed. SORRY FOLKS, this is a good reminder to check my sources before posting!
