I was never a big fan. But I know that he had a lot of influence on a lot of musicians.

From 1964 to 2016 David Bowie created art. That's a nice long legacy and we thank him for it. And he will certainly be one of those that lives on forever in our collective cultural expression.

I saw him at least 3 times, the first at The Tower Theatre in Philly doing the Diamond Dogs show as well as Pittsburgh for the Station to Station tour. Ziggy Stardust changed the way I listened to rock music. The production on that record was ground-breaking.

I became a Stones fan in 1971, and the year after I got Ziggy Startust the new album by David Bowie. I played it to pieces. I just loved it. Then I got a lot of his later albums, Aladdin Sane, Scary Monsters, Let's Dance, and so on, and I saw him on tour. He was a unique musician. Like Freddy Mercury. Like John Lennon. So sad. RIP David Bowie.

I heard this on the news on the way to work this morning. What a lousy way to start the day.
Not much to add to what has already been said.
I'm glad it was peaceful.

I saw him on stage 10 times across 26 years. We're going to see the last performance of "Lazarus" in New York next weekend. Bittersweet now, but apropos.

What horrible news to wake up to - "David Bowie is dead" it screamed white on red from my computer screen.

Noooooooo! Since my early teenage years he and his music were always there for me. Always a safe haven of inspiration, consolation, uplifting, whatever I just needed.

I only saw him once live, 1987 Glass Spider tour right next to the wall in Berlin. A 3 day open air festival with Eurythmics and Genesis on the 2 previous days.The music would be heard also on the other side of the wall and people were trying to get closer, fought back by East German police, riots. They couldn't stop the course of history in the end. I love the idea that Bowie as well as other artists contributed in tearing down that wall of shame.

Very painful to believe. Goodbye starman!

I even played Philip Glass's Low & Heroes symphonies today - Bowie's influence even hit the modern classical world.

Im a fan and I have to say it's hard to believe he is dead.
