Great music with very organic lyrics. It's about ALO, isn't it -
the extent of the damage he'd done by bringing in Allen Klein had just recently sunk in.
Lost a lot of love indeed

What other songs do you reckon are 'subpar' on Exile then HMS?
Shake Your Hips
Casino Boogie
Sweet Black Angel
Ventilator Blues
I Just Want To See His Face

It's about as close to unselfconscious as we ever get to hear from Mick vocally, which is what I love above all else. In which his vocals are almost as unsculpted and therefore perfect as his harp playing. Love Keith's joyous defiant harmonies. This video (aside from the subtitles) to me feels very much like this song. A thrilling somewhat harrowing no holds-barred adrenaline-fueled joyride. An accident narrowly averted. A rebel yell.
Turd on the Run - with great visuals

Makes sense. And in some quarters I hear it's pronounced "Sheeeeee-iiit!"

I just love the single strike Keith misses in there. It just adds to the brilliance of the track. A mean rhythm guitar. And what a sound!

Just been listening to it again and in keeping with the great road journey into the heart of Americana that is Exile I reckon this song strays up the hills into hillbilly/ Appalachian country.
The tempo is perfect for some of that crazy guitar and fidddle mountain music. I can even imagine Hank Williams liking this one.
Yee and indeed ha!

Sorry Exile lovers, but this one just doesn't wet my whistle. It's frantic and yet flat, repetitive and one-dimensional. And what's up with that lame-ass drum sound?
Next!

'Turd on the Run', as many have noted above, on it's own it's a good track; as part of EOMS it's indispensable. It simply has that loose ramshackle groove that countless other acts could spend careers' trying to perfect.
It is tracks like Turd, Casino Boogie, Ventilator Blues, I just wanna see his face, that on their own may not make as much sense, but as part of that scintillating rhythm and blues collective known as Exile, make perfect sense.

its a fantastic song but like so many other great songs the stones made, they also made it unradio friendly which in my opinion has held the stones back a lot. i love the stones, have since 1987 but what i hate about them is the fact they have to be so vulgar at times, its not clever, it does them no favours and actually makes them appear backward at times. the stones were and still are a very clever band when they put thier minds to it, but creating great songs and making it unreleasable as a single is stupid and possibly one reason the beatles have outsold them.

Whats vulgar in one country is fully acceptable in another...
There's nothing vulgar about this track as far as I am concerned.

Usually a Stones-song starts playing in my head only by reading the title. This time the player in my head remained silent. That happens very very rarely.
After listening to the CD I know why: The song is totally uninteresting, I wouldnt say it is crap, but then again not far from it... A "filler´s filler" at best. Musically almost absolutely nothing is happening here, all the same from start to finsih... Must have took half a minute to "compose" it.
One of their most forgettale songs on one of their most overrated albums, imo. (Exile is an album half filled with demo-recordings of subpar songs, that shouldnt be on any Stones-album)
