OT- Best Rock n Roll pianist ever?

Who would you say was/is the greatest rock n roll piano player in history? I think of people like Little Richard and Fats Domino. There are so many to choose from. Maybe Chuck Leavell? Hopefully this will be an interesting topic

I've just discovered the band Stuff. Listening to the debut album, Foots and Do You Want Some Of This, holy smoke!

Personally I love Roy Bittan but I understand if he's not really rock and roll enough. They aren't coming to me now but there's nothing like some great rock and roll piano in a song.

A couple more greats:

Jerry Lee Lewis
Leon Russell

Johnnie Johnson my choice, but Mike Garson is worth a mention some lovely fills on the early 70's Bowie Albums.

Oh yeah, Jerry Lee Lewis was pretty amazing in his day. Ray Charles, too. Not that his playing style was as impressive as the others, but that he could play blind

Never heard of Roy Bittan...but I completely agree that there's nothing like some rock n roll piano in a song. If they're mixed and played just right, guitar and piano can sound amazing together, too. Ain't Too Proud to Beg, for example. "Ain't that a Shame" by Fats Domino has a really nice piano/guitar balance too

If we're talking strictly rock n roll then I think the Killer has this one covered.
Before him there were some beyond awesome boogie woogie players.
These guys are quite good !

Bobby Keys wrote in his book that Leon Russsell is the best pianist he played with. IIRC

Johnnie Johnson. Without him, no Chuck Berry. No Chuck Berry, no Keith Richards. Ok, it is a stretch but...

Lonnie Donnegan

Nicky is the best overall, but Stu was the best rock'n'roll pianist for the Stones.

Johnnie Johnson is my favourite.

I listened to Getting in Tune by The Who in my car yesterday and was blown away by Nicky Hopkins'
piano playing on this song. The man sure has an impressive body of work.

I don't know if he's the best ever, but he is the one I like best.
And he played with the best on the best songs of course. Beatles - Revolution, Kinks - Sunny Afternoon and of course a dozen or more Stones songs, amongst
which the great We Love You.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away
