The story behind Keith playing bass in the Dirty Mac?
Posted by: Turner68 ()
Date: October 15, 2015 10:00

If I recall correctly, Wyman portrays this as an act of Keith being selfish and insensitive, taking "wyman's place" in the Dirty Mac.

Does anyone know the real story for how the band got together and how it ended up with the personnel it did?

I kinda like "Whole Lotta Yoko", they get a nice groove going.

How can offering John and Eric the guitar slots in an all star band on YOUR gig be selfish?

I did read about it this some time ago, but then the focus was on Keith being a gentleman, if memory serves smiling smiley

selfish because wyman felt that he deserved the slot as it was a slot for a bass player.

just to be clear: i'm not saying it was selfish, i'm just saying the only discussion i can recall about how the band came together was in wyman's book, and he said this.

LoFL - Turner, I was sitting here with your first post struggling to figure out
in what sense it was "woman's place" to play bass in that line-up.
Now I see you meant Wyman's place ... but you read about it in woman's book :E

I thought you meant «ladies first», that Keith should have being more polite and offered Yoko the position?

I thought you were kidding about that title until I looked it up. It truly would've been funny if you'd made that title up so I'm somewhat disappointed. Anyways, carry on.

I thought Keith was on bass was a better way to represent The Stones. That's my way of looking at it. Think he did a great job too.

If it were the Stones with Lennon and Clapton guesting, then I could understand Wyman's gripe to a degree. However, it was a super-group, with no obligation towards Wyman whatsoever. I like the old sod, but he's become a a real whinge-bag in recent years.

one could possibly think, after reading Bill's remarks over the years, that

he didn't like Keith very much...

She was a well respected artist before John met her. That's a fact, like it or not.

I kinda like "Whole Lotta Yoko", they get a nice groove going.

Good God. I always considered it among the best ever rock performances, followed immediately with one of the worst.

Someone needs to take some vocal remover software and remove her voice because I agree it was a decent groove and it's unfortunate that she was allowed to walk all over it.

as far as Keith playing bass in the Dirty Mac, he did a fine job, it wouldn't have been the same with Wyman, that was one cool lineup!

It's pretty obvious...whether due to his lack of artistic credit over the decades, or their drastically different lifestyles.

Keith wanted everyone to know he played the bass on JJF, SFM and SFTD. Thats the only real reason. Had Bill been a dick about it he could have insisted on playing the guitar on JJF. Or keyboards.

That paragraph alone is loaded with mistakes smiling smiley

A Quick One is from... A Quick One, Bill...

I'm also pretty sure Keith could have vetoed himself in on any instrument he'd like in that super group. It was the Stones's show!

I don't think Lennon would agree to play unless it was the lineup he wanted.
You don't think it was the Stones that wanted them to perform one of Yoko's songs do you?

Wyman's screw-up of saying the Who played "Tommy" is great example of why we can't place too much emphasis on what one person says, especially if it is self-serving ("I wrote Jumping Jack Flash").
