Seems a lot of time there's conversations going on between posters and others are not welcome. Rarely does anyone comment on something I say. This is the reason I don't say much anymore. So I come here to read the news and find information on The Stones. It's still a great place for that. Cheers.

Yes, I still often get the feeling that if I posted I would be butting in on a private discussion (something I am liable to do in real life, so I am wary of doing it here).

What you have here Green Lady is ten or fifteen posters dominating and shutting hundreds of people out. They act as one. It happens all the time you try to join in or start a conversation and you get ignored. I'm thick skinned enough to live with it but its not fair to so many people to intimidated to post. They jump on you when your new. I had it bad when I started posting. But I never get intimidated in life. NEVER. I eat people like these for breakfast in the real world.

There will be a new IORR AND WORLD STONES POSTER any week now with the Great Gazza (who has 31,501 posts) slipping back to 3rd place Dandelion Powderman (Bard) will be No.1 and Rockman coming in at 2nd place.Rockman currently has more than Dandelion Powderman at this stage but the ground he's made in the last few days on Rockman I can see he'd overtake him any day now and move to that No.1 position..smoking smiley

There are no prizes to be won. Besides, I'd prefer quality over quantity.

The other aspect of this is that sometimes I have nothing of value to contribute, but it's nice to just read and learn (the recent argument about weaving, for instance, or the specialist guitar threads).

I seriously doubt that there is any kind of conspiracy to shut you out (let alone to get you banned) - it's just that some people are very prolific posters and seem to have an opinion about everything and the ability to express it at great length and argue about it till hell freezes over. I don't know how they find the time. On the other hand, there are a handful of people whose posts are usually short and infrequent - but worth watching out for, because they know what they are talking about.

I miss Gazza too. He was a real Gentleman and big fan with lots of knowledge. Used to look forward to reading hi posts. Unfortunately there are others like this, though I've forgotten some of their names. Maybe they're here with new names?

As with most people, I guess, my interest in talking about the Stones or anything else I'm a fan of waxes and wanes over time. In my case this has nothing to do with the tour cycle, because I'm not really into the current band and don't go to the shows - it's more that, like Green Lady, I often find that I don't have much to say, haven't the time or energy to say it, or just find myself more interested in other things. That's life.

The other thing is it's very easy to burn yourself out on a site like IORR if there are a couple of issues you're especially passionate about (Mick Taylor, ticket prices, whichever side of Mick versus Keith you come down on, etc) and you're posting in threads on those subjects that are driven along by highly opinionated superposters with lots of time on their hands. Add to that IORR's unusually adversarial atmosphere and it can quickly get distracting at best, exhausting at worst. Sometimes you need a break.

Its not so much that i get ignored, but i see others get ignored.
If you go away from this site and come back a week later , its the same people saying the same things because they like the sound of their own voice. Without naming names, reading their posts is like watching paint dry. They are so wrapped up in their own ego's its beyond belief. look i don't mind that, that's ok for those people to bore the pants off each other, but we need more posters to even it out a bit. I for one would love to make some comments and start a discussion on here and receive some sort of feed back, or react to a poster who rarely posts in a friendly way. i see people getting the brush off. certain people on iorr have the friends on here they need to discuss things with and they dont want new faces getting in the way.

Its not just me noticing this is it ? others are saying the same thing on this thread. Lets have more people to react to and lets be more welcoming to people.

All this crap about them being trolls, its ridiculous don't you think, where are they..

Is there an element of paranoia here? I've been posting on here for around 9 years (despite it saying I joined 8 years ago) I've never felt like I've been ignored to be honest. If you post on a thread and what you post is dull, not relevant or abusive then it's unlikely people will respond.

Yes there is a core of posters who seem to be on here quite a lot, but it's a free world and if they enjoy posting here in their spare time so be it.

I'll admit that sometimes you can get pounced on if you dare to criticise the Stones or one of their recordings, but that's the nature of forums when they are based around one band/topic. People have strong views as they do in life. Hell, I got banned once for saying Lisa Fischer's singing aint what it used to be!

In general the posters on iorr are a decent bunch and if you don;t poke the wasps nest you'll get an easy ride.

I would like to post more here,
but English is not my first language so it cost me a lot of time to write it down in a good way (I have to look up words I don't know etc..)

and a couple of times I posted something, nobody reacts, but a couple of posts later someone else is saying basically the same thing and than people react to it. Than I'm thinking: forget it!

A lot of times you have discussions and you get the feeling it is between a couple of posters and I don't wanna force myself into the discussion.

I can't believe all the negativity about almost everything. Look for example at the topics about the new releases, From the Vaults etc.., ten years ago we could never dreamed that this would happen and now nothing is good at all. It's all nag, nag, nag...

Whenever I post, it tends to kill the thread. It's uncanny, really. It will drop off the first page in no time. For that reason, I don't post much. I like to think of it as the final word. Maybe that's what Mick meant by "Sharks Will Cry".

Well, maybe we all have that impression sometimes, but then I think that I must have written something so deeply profound that people just need more time to think it all through.

Seriously though, I think this forum is fine as it is, and I take it as fun: as a break in between tasks when I'm at work. Currently I am mainly focussed on the Crosseyed Heart thread because it's the most recent Stones related subject I'm really enthusiast about. And I think that thread is nice to read.

This web site has suffered since the loss of many regular posters. Since Gazza is no more, the conversations have been dominated by opinion ( based on bull)and agenda...usually along the lines of pitting a Mick vs Keith thing or a Taylor vs Wood thing...unfortunate...but there are other places to go fortunately.

That happens to me quite frequently too, GJV. It puzzles me sometimes but I believe it's hardly ever a personal thing.
Maybe sometimes other people are simply more authoritative (for example about musical issues or guitars);
or people post without reading the whole thread - that definitely happens a lot;
or sometimes for some reason a thing just has to be said a few times before it becomes "audible".

I noticed that same thing too, and sometimes things I said. Guess it's more important if it comes from someone else. Anyhow, here's a thought about an encounter I had with a fellow fan in Munich during the Licks Tour. We were at a meeting bar for fans after a show and he said to me not to bother going over to talk to the main group of fans because they're a closed circle and don't let anyone in. He was friends with one of them but said it's no fun with them. I found that a little strange but I believe it. Also, I was thinking maybe some people on the board try to impress The Stones or their management since they sometimes read IORR.

The biggest problem that there are too many colorful people banned or quit because of too many negativity in the past.......so what is left over are mostly people who post here for years and saw almost any Rolling Stones topic posted before.....and then there are the new ones they introduce them self and that's that..................
According to BV we have 3.000.000 visitors per year (2014) and many of them probably can read English but have difficulty to write.........so don't be ashamed to make a mistake..............

So to all the lurkers and visitors (there are 156 on this moment) join IORR and post your questions or scan your local Stones rarities and tell your storie(s) .......

Yes i agree frankotero, countless times i have said something, and then nothing happens, then someone else says the very same thing and everyone reacts to it lol.
Some people post on here and you can tell by the wording that what they are saying is for the benefit of others, not the person they are talking to. It's like they are aware they have an audience and they are so full of self importance they think the Stones management is listening to them.
Maybe some good can come out of this thread, a lot of you guys have expressed that what i feel is going on, is actually going on, is not paranoia. It really does feel like there is a closed circle within a few main posters. I don't mind in the least that they enjoy their discussions, plus i enjoy them too sometimes, but iorr could do with a bit more banter, humour and humanness . There is a lovely 15 year old who posts on here and i have seen him shot down by certain rude and obnoxious posters on occasion.
Its just not nice to witness.
Also these so called prolific posters come out with their stuff and that's great but i am sure there are people a little less articulate than them that have something interesting to say and to add. Its all about confidence with some people, once they come out of their shell you can be amazed about what they have to offer, they just need people to welcome them into the fold, its just common decency and good manners
Ok guys i have said my peace, and i hope you all continue to enjoy this wonderful site, that is like a big family that could be an even bigger better family

One love
John

Excellent post that sums it all up in a nutshell.
There's people here from around the world with different backgrounds, all with varying degrees of knowledge, experience, and interest.
Some people post more than others, while there are others who simply like to lurk in the background.
There's varying opinions on just about everything that's posted here and that's what makes it interesting for most.
One thing for sure that everyone has in common is the Rolling Stones are one of the greatest rock bands ever (some even think the best!).

There's will always be someone who doesn't feel things are up to their standards, voice their opinions,
maybe hurl out a few generic insults, and perhaps even start an entire thread on the subject.
But that goes with the territory of a public forum, everyone has an opinion, and it's freedom of speech.

As just a member here and not the founder/administrator/moderator,
I prefer to take it for what it is, rather than what it's not...warts and all.

None of it should be taken so seriously... it's only rock'n'roll (IORR)...

FYI - I believe there was a thread on this, but 'Hairball' is in dedication to a pet cat I had years ago names Ivan (RIP).
He had a bad habit of spitting up hairballs on a regular basis, but acted more like a dog than a cat - he would fetch a ball for instance.
Ivan will always be missed, but he lives on through this forum...bless his soul.

I think that being ignored does not mean that someone is not welcome. It mostly just means that people can't think of anything interesting to say in reply. Sometimes I will just post an "I agree" or thumbs up or "ha ha" to a joke, but I try not to too much. If there was a "like" button where people could indicate what posts they like, I think you and others would be surprised.

In some cases the most impactful post of all gets no reply, because people look at it and go "yup, that says it all, nothing more to be said".

Indeed being the last person to post on a thread before it floats off into IORR aether is probably as often a sign of appreciation of what you said as it is a sign that people don't care what you have to say.

I would also add that there are various sub-communities here - bass players; brian jones fans; mick taylor fans; people who love the art of the albums, posters and stages; the guitar experts; etc. It's understandable to me if a bunch of expert bass players want to discuss daryl jones and aren't too interested when I pipe in. I don't think that means that someone is not welcome on IORR though.

thumbs up Exactly. I think our man riffhards must have been traumatized by some early interactions on here, sadly. Post and let post. Got something to say, let it rip! The nature of these forums is that people write in their own style and respond and comment on topics and posts that interest them. I respond to the content and although it's nice to get the feeling (over years) we kind of know other posters, it's really just some screen name and I think the notion that some posters are creating a bubble of insider conversations or posting for Stones management is just a bit paranoid.

I honestly don't believe that there are nay posters on IORR who would intentionally ignore someone's post. Sometimes there is just nothing to say. If you really want responses then you might need to be a little more edgy rather than middle of the road. The main thing is not to take things personally.

It's a forum about the Rolling Stones, a band who have been around for a very very long time, a band who have had murders, divorces, drugs bust, court cases, paedophiles, near death experiences etc etc etc...add tot hat the many styles of music, the varying quality of that music, the thousands of live gigs, the interviews...what I'm saying is, there is so much to both agree and disagree on, but ultimatley non of us are in the band nor ever will be and so our views are just that, our views.

I try and be respectful of others' views but will question them forcefully if I feel the need, but at the end of the day, it's not personal and I'm sure if I met anyone of this forum we'd get on just fine under the common love of the Rolling Stones.

I hear what you guys are saying in your posts above, but you cant really fail to see that a lot of people are coming forward in this thread and saying , yes i would post more often but for various reasons ( mentioned in this thread ) they don't. Do you not think it would be nice to have more people to converse with. Do you ask yourself why so few participate in discussions.
