Any hope for Moonlight Mile or Sway?

One can dream. Steve Jordan is a big fan of Moonlight, so there's some hope. Maybe one show of the tour, in the ballad slot?

Saw Moonlight Mile at Milwaukee Summerfest 2015: a musical highlight of my life, with a full moon overhead that you could only see if you were seated out from underneath the pavilion.

It's likely understandable why they don't do songs like

Coming Down Again
Winter
Till The Next Goodbye
Time Waits For No One

and a bit bizarre that they don't do

Summer Romance
Where The Boys Go
Send It To Me
Down In The Hole
Tie You Up

And that said... The idea of starting the show with "Gimme Shelter" I am afraid might make "Scarf Me Up" innocent business... The intro is not easiest for Keith's fingers these days, no matter how economically he tends to deliver it. In the flow of the concert it works, but that of Keith on his own starting the whole show with it, while everybody in the house still having fresh and concentrated ears, well, that would ask some balls from them...smileys with beer

- Doxa

I need to take a bit of my words back. There was a discussion of "Gimme Shelter" in rehearsals thread, and like someone pointed out there are versions in where Keith is sitting down, concentrated and doing the intro pretty efficiently (to be heard in Matt Lee's clip).

So in my mind I can imagine a show start with that - and that would make a helluva introduction to the show. Mick walking in and posing around, and then hearing him delivering the first words - "Ooh, a storm is threatening... My very life today..." - that would be damn cool and dramatic...

Then "Angry", "Tumbling Dice", "It's Only Rock'n'Roll" or something like that and on with the show...

Chuck, do you hear me? Sell that to Mick.grinning smiley

Have a glance at the rehearsal thread - there you find the songs that are going to end up in the setlists.

I wish. They usually rehearse songs they don't play on tour, if I'm not mistaken. So, you're guaranteeing they'll play Live with Me and Emotional Rescue?

? They rehearse a lot of songs a pick a setlist out of that. They are not going onstage unrehearsed as you suggest. If they haven't rehearsed a song it won't make the setlist.
I thought this was simple mathematics and common sense but little did I know...

I know it's apples vs. oranges, but I can't resist:

I just compared two Dylan set lists from Oct 2001 and Feb 2002, basically the same tour.

There was nearly nothing duplicated between the two.

So, in a town where the Stones are playing twice (like Chicago), why not at least mix it up more than three or four songs? Do half of the show with different songs. Leave in the necessary 10 and really stretch things.

Or do it scattered (shattered?) throughout the tour?

Your assumption is wrong. I never implied they'd play an unrehearsed song live, that is ridiculous and a huge stretch.

Let me explain more clearly. Again, they rehearsed Emotional Rescue, She's So Cold and Live with Me. I doubt they'll play those live. That is all.

Are you saying they'll play them because they rehearsed them?

My wishful thinking/dream setlist:

1. Gimme Shelter
2. Get Off Of My Cloud/It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll/Bitch (rotation)
3. Angry
4. Tumbling Dice
5. Out Of Time/Mother’s Little Helper (rotation)
6. Whole Wide World
7. Mixed Emotions/Anybody Seen My Baby? (rotation)
8. Depending On You/Dreamy Skies/Wild Horses/No Expectations/Fool To Cry/Let It Bleed/Ruby Tuesday/Angie etc. (rotation)
9. Bite My Head Off/Mess It Up/Emotional Rescue/Shattered/All Down The Line/Rocks Off/Dead Flowers/Live With Me/One Hit (To The Body) etc. (rotation)
10. Honky Tonk Women
11. Midnight Rambler
12. Tell Me Straight
13. Little T & A/Connection/Happy/Before They Make Me Run/Can’t Be Seen/Wanna Hold You (rotation)
14. Sympathy For The Devil
15. Rough Justice
16. Love Is Strong
17. Start Me Up
18. Jumpin’ Jack Flash
Encore:
19. Sweet Sounds of Heaven
20. I’m Alright

*Twenty-song setlist — I ditched Miss You for 2 songs.
*There’s a nod to the modern Stones era (1989-).
*Some warhorses kept from a realistic point of view.
*For the same reason as above, the setlist contains some songs I am not necessarily fond of, Angie for example.
*Perhaps the least realistic part is the inclusion of I’m Alright as the final encore number instead of Satisfaction. I want to give the crowd a rousing send-off, feeling euphoric and leaving the site on a high.

Very happy to see a new song (Sweet Sounds) included in the final run! When was the last time? Start Me Up?

Mixed Emotions, Out Of Control and Rough Justice all deserved the same treatment.

I was wondering... When was the last time Tumbling Dice was NOT played?

I could really do without it but that seems to be Mick's all time favorite so I don't see it ever being dropped from the set list.

I've seen 50 shows since 1972. JJF and TD are the only ones played at **every** show. So as to when TD may not have been played, Super Bowl and maybe one of the small gigs

GASP! How dare you?
But to each their own. Having said that, there are some on people’s wish list I have no desire to hear myself. Last night’s set list would be perfect for me especially as I never got my (tied for) favorite Beast of Burden in person live myself.

Watching the songs and considering the show the Stones produce now it's clear there is a pattern and it's getting worse.
More and more each tour we are seeing a setlist that is designed for audience participation and clap along sing alongs, even Angry got the singalong segment ( that went disastrously and i'm sure will dropped from the setlist soon.)

Think about it,
GOOMC. singalong, clap , wave
Out Of Time. Singalong, C, W
Angry. singalong, C, W
YCAGWYW. sing, clap wave
MISS You. You get my drift and so on.

Way too much emphasis is on considering the audience being part of the show, i know its lovely to feel and hear the crowd but too many songs in the setlist focus on this aspect of a Stones show.

It is what it is, the Stones have been reduced to a band that tries desperately to involve the audience at the expense of delivering a Rock show that kicks ass.

Start me Up
Get off of my Cloud
Rocks off
Whole wide world

Beast of burden
Midnight rambler
You can't always get what you want
Intros
Little T & A
Gimme shelter
Honky tonk women
It's only rock 'n' roll
