I have a friend who loves Mumford and Sons and The Lumineers. She hates it when I play Queens Of The Stone Age and Eagles Of Death Metal. Any QOTSA fans here?

I actually like Ho Hey by Lumineers...that one song has more melody and more romantic pull than anything the M&S has come up with. That's my problem with M&S, they don't seem to have a flair for melody or writing anything that sounds personal or emotive. Like one reviewer said:
'It sounds less like a life lived then records copied..'

Ray Davies has recorded with them, a few years ago. Here he joins them onstage for a Kinks medley: [www.youtube.com]

And here's a clip of Davies and M&S performing on Later with Jools Holland: [www.dailymotion.com]

Mumford and Sons? They are like a whole bunch of cloned small-Springsteen's, and therefore very popular among people. I think no one can explain why. I can't grab what they're doin' at all...bring me good ol Pete Seeger for Gods sake...drinking smiley

The parents of the lead-singer are the joint-head's of some far-out Christian church, I believe.

They are certainly a popular act and it is always nice to read about a London group doing so well outside the U.K.

They've rubbed shoulders with everyone. They're like Forest Gump...they pop up everywhere...that's what irks me.
Some of you are like, 'They're pretty good' or 'There are much worse' etc...
The level of fame and name-dropping collaborations is beyond their actual worth IMO. The acoustic guitars gave them an automatic entry into respectability, but there are much more interesting artists that have been doing this stuff for far longer and much better.
I'm missing: why them?

Dad...

When I was born you know
I couldn't speak "I'll go"
My mother worked each day
and she learned me to say.
Mother and father and son
sister and uncle are one
and she learned me to say
life is so hard each day.
