Luxury sucks.

This is just so...

I'm taking away your ability to post for 24 half hours...

Use that time to revisit this

Some people can't handle the truth...

...still others don't even recognize truth...this song wins on fuzz tone alone skippy

my woman need a new dress, my daughter got to go to school!

Luxury sounds like it was recorded in a Kleenex box. It's hilariously bad.

That's what the dream team of Harwood/Johns were after...Kleenex sound on a cocaine budget...great tune. But the soup was better

I know Silver Train isn't the greatest tune but Luxury is just so... pedestrian.

I just listened yesterday to GHS.

I have always liked it a lot.

track by track, against IORR..

i like every song on GHS better than the ones on the other album.

but I do like Fingerprint File, for me its a tie with Star Star, for a closer.

its was really good to revisit GHS, I had not listened to it all the way through, loud, for some time..

its part of the Jimmy Miller kick I've been on I guess..

both those albums do present a bunch of great Taylor/ Richards guitar styling..I love all the Keith wah-wah playing, for example on Coming Down Again, and on Heartbreaker.

that track has one of my favorite solos ever, by Mick T.

And thats why I like it. But of course Silver Train is better.

Maybe IORR is the first real album with real fillers like till the next time or If you really want to be my friend. Problem is I really like em both and consider them so so much better than the filler on let say Some Girls, ER or TY (maybe TY doesn't have fillers in that sense). They have a sound and the album is their most 70s album probably. Black n blue could have been recorded later despite it's cool 70s feel.

IORR

is very reflective of all the "Rock and Roll" songs right of that era...

Rock and Roll, Zep, Rock and Roll Fantasy Bad Company, and so on, almost everyone big had a song with it in the title.

But IORR is the best or close to it, big R n R revival.

Sorry, but we've at least avoided being subjective about this.

As latebloomer's post shows, there's no way BUT subjective to be about it. Different favourites for different people, and the best you can hope for is to add up all the votes and see what most people like - but you still won't persuade anyone to prefer what they don't prefer, just because other people think so.

Anyway, here's mine (subjective as hell)

Dancing With Mr D vs If You Can't Rock Me: Like both, but IYCRM has much more oomph to it.

100 Years Ago vs Ain't Too Proud To Beg: Can't abide this particular cover, so 100 Years.

Coming Down Again vs IORR: a real apples-and-oranges one, and I love both of them, but I'll take CDA.

Heartbreaker vs Till The Next Time: Heartbreaker

Angie vs Time Waits For No One: Here I will take the Mick ballad, but it's close. Angie

Silver Train vs Luxury - I don't mind the accent at all: Mick's just singing in character, as he often does. Very close decision - Luxury.

Hide Your Love vs Dance Little Sister: Dance Little Sister

Winter vs If You Really Want To Be My Friend: Winter by a long way.

Can You Hear The Music vs Short and Curlies: CYHTM - never understood the hatred for this one.

Star Star vs FingerPrint File: Star Star for the sheer tearing energy of the thing.

I think that's 7:3 to GHS for me.

I agree with you Greenlady, you and latebloomer are way too subjective to be objective.

Love both albums. Only change I would definitely make is Angie over TWFNW. My favorite Stones song of all time. My niece Angela, who is currently attending UBC, was named after the song!

GHS is much better. It has a mood and a unity to it. IORR has some great stuff, but Short & Curlies is really a piece of excrement masquerading as a song.

Interesting to see how I score this:

Dancing With Mr. D or If You Can't Rock Me - close - but JUST - MR D
100 Years Ago or Ain't Too Proud To Beg - 100 Years Ago
Coming Down Again or It's Only Rock N' Roll - Coming Down Again
Doo Do (Heartbreaker) or Till The Next Time... - Doo Do (Heartbreaker)
Angie or Time Waits For No One - Angie....NO....Time Waits for No One
Silver Train or Luxury - Silver Train
Hide Your Love or Dance Little Sister - Dance Little Sister
Winter or If You Really Want To Be My Friend - Winter
Can You Hear The Music or Short And Curlies - Can You Hear The Music
Star Star or Fingerprint File - Star Star

So....the washup:

Goats Head Soup = 8
IORR = 2

Not even close, though a couple of the individual rounds were VERY close.

if these numbers hold, I think the punishment should be being made to listen to Dancing with Mr. D and Can You Hear the Music on repeat for a two hour period.

I'm not trying to be nasty, I just want people to really question their choices.
