Hey, Stones lovers!
Speaking of garage rock.
We all have the cdbox "Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 [Box]" (kiddin - but s o m e of you gotta have it, right?).

Anyway, on cd4 there´s a smasher (lot of such amont the 120 songs with exclusively North American - US, that is - garage rock from 1965-68);
which I just rediscovered... Namely "Blackout of Gretely" with the Gonn.
And now we aint talkin bout some ESC, hell no.
It starts with a marvellous scream - then comes the bulldozer...
I dont have the booklet beside me now, but check this one out.

On the Gonn.
They´re from Iowa.
Craig Moore-Vocals, bass ((Acool smiley
Rex Garrett-lead guitar, vocals (Acool smiley
Gerry Gabel-organ, vocals (Acool smiley
Gary Stepp-guitar (A)
Brent Colvin-drums (A)
Larry LaMaster-guitar (cool smiley
Dave Johnson-drums (cool smiley the meaning of the As and Bs you´ll have to find out for yourself on the fan site ((cool smiley is a B ) :

[groups.msn.com]

[groups.msn.com]

...Contains some email interview questions & answers to/fro the vocalist.

And "Blackout" doesnt start with the scream, but with this words, spoken:
"The universe is permeated with the odor of kerosene!"

At PSPOT they write: "Gonn was from Keokuk, IA, and they wrote what was to become one of THEE 60's garage-punk staples, a masterpiece, in the Spring/Early Summer of 1966! "Blackout Of Gretely" has Craig Moore's blood-curdling yell, Rex Garrett's powerful fuzz guitar riff, and a grip that will not let go until the very end of its 4 minutes and 29 seconds. The band is punk rock, but a full ten years before it had a name. They took the power chords and attitude of bands such as The Kinks and Rolling Stones and added their own high-octane formula to the mix. Gonn IS 60's garage/punk rock!"

Wow!

Cool, or... ?

Baboon Bro

The new Robert Plant is a funny mix of styles : egyptian influences, blues, rock etc.
It isn't poppy at all and IMO it sounds more Zeppelinesque that his previous solo works (not speaking of the Page/Plant stuff)

But it really needs more than a couple of listenings to really get into it.

"Tears In My Eyes" with Uriah Heep passed by on a cassette tape.
Its from the Look At Yorself-LP from ´71, their best imho
(saw Heep in Göteborg ´85, not the best year in their career,
but anyway a competent concert, with a bubblingly smiling Mick Box
shaking hands with almost everyone in the audience while playing).

ablett, so you're still digging JB ca 71. Have you purchased "Star Time" yet? I guarantee, once you do, it will not leave your player for a year. Happened to me.

Nice choice, The Harder... Grrreat song.

So; anyone got a new favorite from the ESC?

- Honestly it was the worst sh*te I´ve ever seen.
Moldavia was funny; Greece semi-okay.
Norway funny. I noticed almost all the top-ten songs was from the so called
semi-final the other day... They gotta stop the stupid masses vote now.
Some rockers invade the stage; but they´re all styled up to their teeth.

Thank you. Please do return with further thoughts on this Plant after you´ ve heard more of it. He´s not predictable, this geezer - he was good already in the early 80´s not to long after Zeppelin suffocated by its own body mass & fame fat.

...Though it felt like a "Either-total-silence/birdsong-or-heavy-rock, rock'n'roll/punkrock/Dolls/Stooges-day" I now listen to Gimme Shelter in a dozen different versions today... Good heavens how heavy the Winos version with Keeftser on vocals is! Let him sing it on the tour!!!

Guns´N´Roses version of Sympathy for the devil. I saw the movie "Interview with the Vampire" yesterday and that tune is played when the end credis begin. Nice cover, I like Axl's vocals for the few first minutes before he starts he's ususal screaming. Btw, the movie is great IMO.

Gimme Shelter in a dozen versions, still today (that lunacy began yesterday morning, as can be seen above). God Heavens, what a song... In fact, for me it started out with that one for me, when I got this craze Stone freak thing which really blew me away around 2003 & last European leg of that year (but I didnt see´em then, my greedy bastard)...
