They were tape delayed and I read NBC cut some stuff out AND the stupid NBC commentators talked way too much (we do not need to have every freeking detail of an artistic show explained)... BUT, in the end, BRAVO RUSSIA!!!! Those opening ceromonies were spectacular!!

I think (judging by the BBC lady) that the commentators had probably been given a sheaf of background notes explaining what all the activities were about, and felt they ought to use them. Apart from the famous missing fifth ring, it all worked very well, especially the blending of live actors and computer-projected backgrounds.

It seemed more like they felt obligated to use ever single note written about every single movement that happened. I would suggest a better plan (maybe for the closing ceromny or Rio) might be using the closed captioning along with a little bit of them talking. Allow (people who need to know everything to turn on their closed captioning) and have the cc explain all of the stuff and have the blabbers just mention a few of key points. After all if NBC is going to force us to wait 10 hours, they could use that time to write it all up. But they wont. NBC may be the lamest network in the world.

"China’s Kexin Zhang skated to a strings version of two Rolling Stones song, “Paint It Black” and “Sympathy for Devil,” but didn’t bring much rock ‘n’roll to her skate. While everything was technically clean, it lacked energy. Her 54.58 put her into second with eight skaters left to go." smileys with beer

Great music choices!!

btw- man those skating judges are tough. I dont think I could do that job. I always think a skater did good, but then the commentators shred them about the smallest of things... even that article, the tone makes it seem as if the skater did poorly, but is in 2nd place. winking smiley

Two gold medals, one silver and one bronze for Norway at the first competing day of the games. But my mind is on the tour now, I see the news in Norway do only care about the Olympics but I do only care about the Stones right now. And my family.

Gotta love that Jamican bobsled team...nice to hear that the opening ceremonies and the beginning of the games were successful. I haven't had a chance yet to watch anything, but will take it all in as soon as I can.

In the meantime, thanks for the regular updates here and Bjornulf, it was good you remembered to add "and my family." grinning smiley

This downhill course is particularly badas s. Several jumps up till 50 meters + sudden turns. The racers are up for a big challenge. Let's hope for better medical assistance in the final...

Imagine shooting while your heart is beating at neckbreaking speed. Then it's back running those hills again (and they are steep!).

Nothing, but impressive.

Congrats Justine and Chloé Dufour-Lapointe!!!! smileys with beer

CANADIAN SISTERS EARN GOLD AND SILVER, SHARE PODIUM

It was an emotional moment for the two sisters and Montreal natives, who had just made Canadian Olympic history and earned Canada its first gold and silver medals of the 2014 Sochi Winter Games in the process.

Justine and Chloé placed first and second, respectively, in the women's moguls final at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park Saturday in Sochi..

No Canadian sisters have ever stood on the same podium together in Olympic history.

Poor Bob Costas, I guess he has a major eye infection going on.
He is looking like the Terminator after his eye ball was ripped out.

But in all seriousness, it must be hard doing a broadcast like
this with a wasted eye, it shows what a PRO Costas is. Props to him. smileys with beer
