Have to agree with latebloomer about Unchained Melody. But I also have to go with I Will Always Love You (Whitney Houston). Great song and her voice certainly sends it over the top.

Dolly Parton's original is good too.

I was just about to mention I Will Always Love You before y'all beat me to it.

Keith Whitley's "When You Say Nothing At All" is way up on my short list. Alison Krauss does an excellent cover of it that, in some ways, I prefer to the original.

Peace,
Mr DJA

That's a mighty good one, especially the version on "The Dance". Stevie Nicks' finest hour.

The audio is great but this video is even better. It blew me away when I first saw it, especially when you know a bit about the history of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

"You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you". How true is that in their case.

In the video for I Will Always Love You, Whitney Houston is sitting while singing. I don't know how singers can do that and sing to their fullest capacity. Adele does that, as well.

Loving Cup. I like earthy instead of schmaltzy.

It's all about the posture... Sitting slouched over in a recliner, you'll be hard pressed to have the type of control, sustain, support that you'd have while standing. However, seated on the edge of a chair or stool, with good posture from the waist up, you can still have excellent response and control of your diaphram for singing.

I wonder if anyone has ever done any actual lab research into this to actually quantify the "loss" from being seated. I'd imagine that some university science major who just happend to be in the choir got curious at some point. My only knowledge comes from countless hours in choir rehearsals from the age of nine through the end of college. Lousy posture is a killer either way. Good posture and practice pays off.

Peace,
Mr DJA

I think that Dolly Parton's original that I scarcely have heard, was a relief for me as to the song. Because to me, I am sorry to say, Whitney Huston's version is more menacing than loving. For me it is too much a stalker's declaration of love. This was not at all present in Dolly Parton's nice original.

Others might, of course, feel otherwise about Whitney Houston's version, I understand.

Song was written about her parting ways (professionally) with Porter Wagner.

Favorite Male love songs:

*Have a little faith (every woman should be so lucky as to have the guy portrayed)
*You are so beautiful
*Have I told you lately, or anything off Poetic Champions Compose (caution...may backfire, had a multi year relationship completly explode in the middle of making out with this playing, lol)
*In Spite of Ourselves (comic)
*Far From Me (sad breakup, will you still see me tomorrow, no I've got to much to do, well a question ain't realy a question....if you know the answer too!)

The original recorded in a studio booth at a department store.
Caught even John Lennon's ear and his version is worth a listen, a bit superfluous to post as well.

Also:

George Jones, He stopped loving her today

Temptations, My Girl

Orioles, Crying in the Chapel

Fats Domino, Blueberry Hill

[thebestsongs.net]

This webpage lists some from the 1950s, honorable mentions have to be songs like "I only have eyes for you", a bit schmaltzy but so it goes.

And how about "Silhouette, Silohouette, Silohouette", taxes the bandwidth to name love songs from the '50s, so many good ones. "You belong to me" (See the Pyramids along the Nile), I guess Doo-Wop was sort of based on love songs such as "Where are you little star?" "Hey Venus, Oh Venus"

"No Milk Today", might as well get it up to the '60s, this is such a loaded question, honorable mention too to this one which has been performed by various artists.

Dick and Dee Dee have a version of "Blue Turns To Grey", they met the boys in So Cal back then.

This song is astonishing for coming out when it did:

She has a book, I'll read some time.

To other more familiar fare, "The song is over" by the Who, yeah, probably could bring me close to tears the first times I heard it, ace song.

Hon. Mention, Marty Robbins "You gave me a mountain", suppose GD's Sugar Magnolia too. Love Grows where my Rosemary goes, My baby loves love. Lots of others as well.

it's not the best on the planet, but I find this song very sweet.

Well, if we're talking sweet, but kinda corny...I have to add this one. I grew up on all those old Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals and this song from South Pacific still makes me smile whenever I hear it. Plus, how can you not love Mitzi Gaynor?
