My mate Chris Wilson, singer/guitarist with the Flamin' Groovies has been asked to play in a band with Groovies lead guitarist Cyril Jordan, Nils Lofgren, Waddy Wachtel and others on the night. Think they're planning on doing a Stones song in their set.

Hip Hop has influenced rock music big time. Therefore, hip hop artists should be in the fame. NWA and LL Cool J are both legends. Ignorance is not bliss sometimes.

Yeah, totally agreed, Straight Outta Compton is one of the best rap records ever made. Every year we get the stupid comments about the name of the hall of fame. Just accept that they're referring more to the attitude and not literally to ROCK AND ROLL. I actually think most of these nominees are pretty good. Zombies really didn't have the longevity, but it seems like if you were around in the 60s anymore and had a couple hits, that's good enough(i.e. Ronettes and some of the rnb groups of the time).

At the risk of an onslaught of criticism I make my annual request for Jimmy Buffett. If you haven’t been there you would not understand.

Rap does not belong in the ROCK n ROLL Hall of Fame

Does Muddy Waters belong in the ROCK n ROLL Hall of Fame?
Do Simon and Garfunkel belong in the ROCK n ROLL Hall of Fame?
Does Bob Marley belong in the ROCK n ROLL Hall of Fame?
Do The Staple Singers belong in the ROCK n ROLL Hall of Fame?
Does James Taylor belong in the ROCK n ROLL Hall of Fame?
Does Brenda Lee belong in the ROCK n ROLL Hall of Fame?

Absolutely ridiculous that Warren Zevon is not even on the ballot. The Replacements were a great band and at seven albums I can understand why people don't think their career was substantial enough but if you are talking about rock 'n' roll attitude, The Replacements fit the bill. I saw them open for Tom Petty in 1989 at Canada's Wonderland outside Toronto. They went on record as saying that was the lowpoint of their career. They were very drunk, played two unknown songs (one of which Westerberg called out chord changes during) and mystified guest Benmont Tench to the point that he shrugged after their set. However, when they launched into "She's A Goer" they were rock 'n' roll exemplified. If you don't like non-rock 'n' roll artists in the Hall (Madonna, Leonard Cohen etc) then you should want The Replacements in.

It's totally unfair that Marcia is in the Hall of Fame and Jan isn't. Marcia! Marcia Marcia!

Hey, I think it's only fair since Marcia was the team player and took the football to the nose.

We like to reward effort and sacrifice.

IMO, the people that aren't exactly rock and roll that were in awhile ago were in because they directly influenced it. I can agree with that. Having the rap people in because rock influenced them? Eh, I don't really see as much of a connection, but thats just me. Just at that point, I don't see why they wouldn't want their own Hall Of Fame. They would be the first ones to tell you they aren't primarily rock so why win an award for that? Its more that the Hall has become the Pop Hall Of Fame at this point, so everyone can fit that bill.

The real problem is they keep trying to hang on to the old fact with people like The Zombies and Link Wray. Either keep it strictly rock music, or bite the bullet and change the format. The Zombies and LL Cool J shouldn't be on the same nomination. There are miles of difference between them. The only reason Cool J is up is because he's a different genre that the Hall wants to seem accepting of, and the only reason the Zombies are up is because they represent this older type of rock. No one is being honored for the right reasons anymore, and its sad that you can pin point how everyone can feel like an obligation to fill some category.

I think the point here is clear...not so many absolutely-fantastic-earth-shattering-Hall-of-Fame-worthy acts still to be inducted.

The fact that tripe like KISS are leading contenders to be inducted probably say it all. They've kept them out as long as they could but the scum has finally risen to the top.

Worse is that as time goes by, fewer and fewer 'rock acts' have made it big so they'll have a dearth of worthy entrants in the next few years.

To maintain any relevance they'll have to call it the Rock'n'Rap Hall of Fame at some point.

Deep Purple
Kiss
Nirvana
Linda Ronstadt
Link Wray

The rest of these nominees can suck it.
In my humble opinion...

Like KISS or not, they were HUGE at one time. Deep Purple is a no-brainer.

I don't like Nirvana, but they should be in (see KISS comment).

How the hell is Isaac Hayes not in already? Besides his own influential releases, he was partly responsible for a lot that came out of Stax in the early/mid 60s. A lot of these artists are more deserving than some of the older RnB acts in there already.

Let Rap create a hall of fame of their own. And almost every nominee this year does not belong.

So rap artists should be in their own hall of fame and stay the hell away from the rock and roll one, but a reggae artist in the rock and roll hall of fame is fine? Why aren't you expressing outrage and saying Bob Marley should be in a reggae hall of fame only?
