No kidding, Boston, eh? Well, I saw Brian and Al on the Pet Sounds tour back in 2005, but have never seen Jeff in concert, so now I guess here's my chance!

The Beck Boys??

I knew Beck performed an instrumental "Surf's Up" at a Brian Wilson tribute several years ago, but this kind of blows me away. The thing is the Brian Wilson band is made up of extraordinary musicians. I imagine that the potential incongruity can be turned into a strength in that context. Also might help sell tickets to people who wouldn't see one of the artists alone.

Elderly institutions? Huh? I hope I get to see them here at the Greek in L.A. It sounds like an interesting mix of Beach Boy, Wilson solo, and whatever Beck brings to the table.

Jeff may reinvent surf guitar. Witness "Surf's Up" from Musicares performance. I may have to do a Vegas pilgrimage for this. Jeff has blown me away every time I've seen him going back to the mid 70's. & the Brian Wilson "Smile" show was quite good too.

For Jeff this is a natural move forwards. Recently he's been focussing on 50s rock'n'roll. Moving into surf would be a chronological progression and not a million miles away from this stunning instrumental.

I love Sleepwalk. That dvd (the tribute to Les Paul) is quite good.

Hit take on Apache at the Les Paul Tribute is terrific. Actually, the whole concert is beyond magnificent. It's worth tracking down if you want to hear a different side to Beck's playing.

Thanks for the heads up, tatters! Thanks to you I got third row at the Beacon in the pre-sale! I saw Jeff's Les Paul show there and he captured the DVD quite nicely. Really looking forward to this.

His Live From Ronnie Scott's album shows that he can and that he's not all just flash and slash.

Ticket prices for the Toronto show range from 63 dollars to 187 dollars. 63 sounds reasonable. So I go to ticketmaster and I realize that the 63 dollar tickets are literally the last 4 rows of the venue. That's the bone they threw us. The 5th row from the back is 97 dollars. 34 dollars separate the two rows. Not section or level but ROW. Ridiculous. I have never heard of such a thing. And, of course, most cheap seats are gone now because of the pre-sale and most likely all will disappear within seconds of public sale.

Those ticket prices are a rip-off. Most of Brian's fans would rather see him without Jeff Beck, and the ticket prices for the short tour before Beck was added as a permanent guest were not nearly that expensive. I'm not even sure adding Jeff is a good idea. It makes me think of Donny Osmond singing on "Ambitious." The musical styles don't seem compatible. They already have David Marks and Jeff Foskett, who are both capable guitarists for Beach Boys material.

This is definitely an odd yet, very compelling pairing. I think I'll have to check it out. I hope Tal Wilkenfeld is playing bass. She is flat out amazing and worth the price of admission alone.

Edit: A little quick researched revealed that she in fact is featured on Brian's new solo album, so here's hoping she'll stick around for the tour. But she is now embarking on a solo career of her own so who knows.

That does sound cool. The problem is if you don't like or don't care that much about Jeff Beck (which is the case with me), you don't really care about half the show. I'd like to see Jeff Beck playing the Beach Boys stuff, or playing the stuff of his that I know. But his whole set, minus the Beach Boys songs, would really bore me. If I wanted to see that, I'd see Jeff Beck solo which I assume he does frequently.
