I'm listening now Amnesia for the first time on Spotify.
At he first listening I have to say that it has a very good groove with dirty guitars, nice drummin' by SJ and all the correct ingredients. I think that it has got something of Little Village (Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, Jim Keltner, Nick Lowe) sonority or something close to Dire Straits or to some Ry Cooder's albums (The Slide Area/Chávez Ravine). This song is what I expected from Keith. It is a fresh song and I love his vocals here.

Uhh, not quite. SHE'S THE BOSS was certified Platinum, sales of over 1,000,000 units in the U.S. alone. No knock on Keith, but times have changed since then. I'd guess maybe 200K in the U.S.? Almost certainly more than Superheavy!

Not many are selling 200K of physical products today, LongBeach. If he gets figures like that, he should be very happy, imo.

Yeah, maybe you're right, Dandie. I don't follow the charts closely enough. There was someone on the board a few months ago who was a charts guru but I can't remember who it was. Maybe s/he can give us an estimate?

Amen to that. Amnesia is a marvelous piece of music. Adventurous, exciting, funky as hell, inspired, and delightfully raunchy. All the elements work perfectly ... Keith's inimitable vocals, Steve Jordan's propulsive drumming, the elegantly-wasted guitar-work, the gospelly keyboards, and Bobby Keys' bleating sax. A knockout.

There is an element of just getting his music out there for posterity but this isn't the typical make a good record so you can make money touring model here.

Streams and downloads absolutely. Very different from sales.

Streams and downloads are now included in sales figures and they do provide income for the artists. Physically different but much less so from a business perspective, just another sale regardless of how it is delivered.

Perhaps I should have quoted the whole thread. In the context of comparing Keith's sales to that of his first two solo albums or mick's you can't really comparing units shipped since as you and I agree the world has changed and touring and streams are much more important now.
