'Start Me Up', 'Worried About You', 'Waiting On A Friend'. As Doxa has said it is often how you intend to interpet great.

Stones fans are really demanding! The Stones have releases many great songs on every album, imo.

Yes, The Stones fans are really demanding, but guess who had made them to think so and ask so much? Who taught them to put the criteria of greatness so high?

I think the truth has more to do with Stones fans, and the era they discovered the band in. For younger fans it's easier to appreciate songs from all eras, apparently.

I would say that Love Is Strong, Doom And Gloom, Continental Drift, Out Of Control, The Worst, Rough Justice, How Can I Stop, Under The Radar, Thru and Thru, Laugh I Nearly Died, , etc...plenty of others that still kick ass, right up there with the classics...
I think most people have the attitude that Stones cant do it anymore, when they listen to same old classics and over and over, year after year - but if you actually take the time and listen to new songs - you will realize that there's plenty of really good stuff out there - I didnt like Exile when I first heard it, but as the years went by - it became my all time favourite, as the years go by - I found lot more new songs on Bigger bang and Voodoo Lounge too that I didnt care for when I first heard it...

Good point. I think this goes for players and Stones fans that were strongly influenced by Taylor and started to play the guitar in the days he was still a great lead player. People that saw him play at a young age in '73 or '75 for example. Like Doxa would say: the difference between pornography and the real thing.

Just out of curiousity, what made him more of "the real thing" than Santana, Paul Kossoff, Peter Green, Neal Schon, Robin Trower, Duane Allman and the other great guitarists at the time?

Beats me... I really wonder why people think Winter is a great song, and Continental Drift not

Just a theory, though. However, the fanatic Brian-ists or Taylorites in their 20s don't scream so loud, do they?

I never got into the Stones until the VL era, when I was about 20. But, I gravitated to the Taylor era right away, because it's just better.
I've always had the opposite theory of you, though. I think younger fans tend to overrate the newer material, as well as the newer concerts, mainly out of a need to feel like they were part of some peak era of the Stones, when in reality they/we missed it. I accept it, and envy those who got to experience all the great music from the 60s and 70s. And I like alot of the newer Stones stuff more than most.
