Holy craptola!

"Queen" is also playing in Paris on the 26th! I wonder how HIS show is going to sell now that all the Queen/classic rock fans already have plans to go see Queen!

Queen is playing Bercy (20000), so that leaves either the Arena U (40000), Stade de France (80000) or the smaller Zenith (which I saw the Who at more recently), wonder what it's gonna be...

Hate to disappoint you but the band that is playing on 26th June in Paris is not Queen. Queen without Freddie Mercury is like the Stones without Jagger. What is happening on 26th June is a celebration of Queen's music which no doubt will be great but it is not Queen. End of!

I was about to say the same thing but you can't underestimate the power of nostalgia, which really becomes you can't underestimate how stupid people are. A LOT of people are paying to see what is blasphemously called Queen these days and they do great business. Bill it as Brian May (and then the 20% thats probably there for Roger Taylor) and I'd at least applaud them for their honesty, and you'd get the true turnaround. Bill it as Queen and many people show, regardless of what else is in town.

Up against Macca, yes, I would think fake Queen would lose. Having said that, if Queen is already on sale and Macca isn't, they could have the edge. If people didn't have tickets to either, I could see them choosing Paul. If they already have tickets to Queen, they might not want to give up tickets to the nostalgia act they already have.

I don't see how "Queen" can lose... Macca plays Paris every 2 or 3 years, I even skipped out on him last time (supposedly it wasn't one of his better shows). And "Queen" put the tickets on sale a month ago (at least), first come first serve, Macca gets sloppy seconds on Paris' classic rock fans.

The Queen show at Bercy has been sold out for a while. I wonder how many are only going there because of the BR biopic...

Macca is playing at the UArena (or whatever it's called now) like he did in 2018. Biggest Macca fan here but I think I've seen enough of the different variations of that show since the 2002 opener in Oakland. Unless there's something "special" about this one...

Hehe...I thought about writing that yesterday, but it's not a good reason enough for me anymore ;-) TBH I would have been fine after the 2016 show where I got the soundcheck package and rushed the rail, can't top that. 2018 was ok but dispensable, I did get a presale ticket though...

Anyway Macca's two new songs are OUT !

Home Tonight and In a Hurry...listenable, it's a shame about the voice though, makes anything on "Pipes of Peace" sound like a masterpiece, sadly.

Probably half the audience! Cuz last time they played the Zenith which is way way smaller. I'm not worried about the sellout, I'll probably manage to find a cheaper ticket somehow.

I like the new tracks a lot, I can imagine they would sound great live. I actually think Paul's voice holds nice there. I would like to see him again, wouldn't travel too far for him any more, but if he plays Berlin (5 hours by train for me) or anywhere closer, I will try to get a ticket.

A great point - yet completely worthless for the people who want to go see them.

You couldn't at least give them, Brian May et al, the nod of continuing? Who makes a band? AC/DC can certainly hold that one up. Sure, the Stones without Mick Jagger, absolutely. However, it's not up to us - what if Mick long ago said EH SOD IT, MAN and Keith said WELL SOD YOU and found another singer?

It can be done and it has been done. LVs or not, Pink Floyd, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains... Led Zeppelin (for one show, anyway, which was excellent), The Doors, Def Leppard, The Stones - the list goes on with people leaving and being replaced - I get some bands have the voice being a major factor (Motley Cure FAILED fantastically without Vince Neil while Journey has risen with Arnel Pineda) but some bands just can't (Stones and Zeppelin are perfect examples) replace their singer.

Your opinion is yours, of course, and I don't disagree with it - yet I can look beyond it: I don't have to go (or buy their records) if I feel that it's not right.

I get what you're saying, but have to aggree with Captain Teague. I have unfortunately never seen Queen with Freddie, saw them once with Paul Rogers, which was a great concert despite the fact that Paul is a way different singer than Freddie and saw them twice with Lambert. I find Lambert obnoxious. Went there to see Brian May, who is still absolutely amazing and Roger, who is still very good. I was not disappointed, I got what I expected, but I find Lambert difficult to bear with for two hours. Then I saw Brian solo with Kerry Ellis, which felt better, sort of more sincere than the current Queen.

You mentioned other bands, among them Doors. It is a way different story with Doors, though I find the situation pretty much exactly the same as with Queen. John prevented them from using the Doors brand, so they were billed as Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors. I saw them in 2010 in a congres hall and in 2011 in a club. Not even sold out. If they used the brand Doors, I am sure they woud have played in sold-out arenas. Such a sad story, which shows how many of those people filling arenas and stadiums are there for the band and how many for the brand.

Many people say that the current Queen is not Queen. The opponents say, that nobody says it is a Queen, that it ia s "Queen +". The thing is, that if the first word on tickets was not "Queen," Brian and Roger would play in clubs. This way they fill arenas. Good for them, I think those two guys deserve it, but I find it sad anyway.

Yeah it's sad but to most people music isn't as "important" as it is to most (all?) of us here. It's just another consumer good, the "flavor of the month" stuff that Keith used to talk about. They don't know the history, the highs, the lows, the struggles, the legends, etc...On the other hand without them the Stones (or May and Taylor for Queen fans) would likely not bother to play anymore, they're out there because they can fill stadiums, get the rush, the thrill of their heyday, etc...As long as the "consumers" don't chat during shows it's really not an inconvenience for the diehards ;-)

Queen know exactly what they're doing. Its hard to judge them or the fans. Actually, I think its easy to judge the fans, I go back and forth with the band. In the end, yes, I blame them and think they're stupid for what they're doing. Yes, I know they're just making a career, and I know they DIDN'T do it for awhile so you can't really call it greedy cause they weren't for awhile. I just think there are some bands where one member is so identifiable its impossible to continue. AC/DC did the impossible, but the thing is ANGUS is the key member there, it wasn't Bon. But they're a special case. You could also argue Queen specifically advertise as Queen+ and never just Queen, but again, as has been mentioned, they know what they're doing. Queen fills arenas, Brian May doesn't. But I'd have more respect for them if they continued as Brian May and Roger Taylor. But thats just me as a fan being picky and being a traditionalist with them. I think since they already have enough money they don't NEED to resort to that, and if I had my druthers they WOULDN'T do that. But having said that, I get why they obviously do and I also would love it if they knew they were taking advantage of the fans. The general public is so stupid today, with almost all bands, that they don't actually care what they are seeing. They want to see a name on a ticket and say they saw THAT. They don't care that Freddie Mercury is not there (even though you know thats not Queen), they don't care that Glenn Frey is dead, they don't care that Lindsey Buckingham isn't there. They want to see the NAME they paid to see and its a status thing. Its not about the music at all. So in that case, as a music fan, I'd love to see the artists try and wring every last dollar out of those idiots. Those people have ruined the concert business so if artists I love can reap from it, I have no qualms. Thats the sick thrill I get. The bands ruined it first by charging that much, our band being a prime candidate that started it. But that it was the fan's fault for buying into it so I now side with the artist there. But the fact that we're having a discussion whether Queen exists in 2019 is completely silly. We all know it isn't.

As for the Paul songs... listen, he clearly just loves making music. I don't think he knows what else to do, and I don't think this is a put on or something he's doing because someone is forcing him. He clearly just does it because its all he knows to do, and I can applaud it in that regard. I think at this point quality is second to just putting something out is his mindset, and he sorta knows ANYTHING he puts out, good or bad, is gonna get the same fanfare and that anything he puts out is able to be decent so why not just do it?

Having said that, the songs themselves don't really mean much. Home Tonight is about as candy confection pop that he can write in his sleep as you can get. Which for Paul is to say of course its not bad, but its kinda like Dance Tonight. Its a catchy kinda melody that repeats and is hardly anything worth saying good or bad. It just... is. The other song is a little bit more out there and not really in a good way. Again, both songs are exactly what I'd expect from him. They kinda suck but because they're Paul we're like "they're fine." I know comparing him to the Beatles is dumb, but just... compare his new stuff to ANYTHING he used to write and its slightly sad, or I guess more amazing to see how this can seem so lazy as opposed to timeless. Not that I expect it from him at this stage, but to pretend its not noticeable is, yknow. This IS the guy who wrote Maybe I'm Amazed after all.

And its always funny to hear the new stuff. Like that bit at the end of In A Hurry. Where it ends then comes back. Like, back in the 60s or 70s, there was clearly a purpose to that, it was inventive. Now, I just wonder what's going through his head when that happens. Did he think of it? Did someone else? What's the thought behind it? Just because it sounds like something they maybe would have done back then or was that genuinely something he thought the song was missing? You can see here that it feels part of a formula whereas they had a specific goal when doing Strawberry Fields or something. I'd also like to note its not like he's not capable of writing good songs late in his career. Something like Fine Line off his Chaos and Creation album is an excellent classic Paul pop song that I think stands with his other great songs. He's capable. I just wonder if its a lack of trying or if he gives EVERYTHING these days the same attention and just some naturally end up being really good cause he's Paul McCartney.

Got my tickets for Nijmegen, golden circle. Goffert Park is a great place, almost like hyde park. This is interesting for german fans, because Nijmegen is not far away. Highly recommended!

And: if you want to stay there overnight, better hurry up and get a hotel (Nijmegen will be booked up fast).

ok so I lied about giving this "new tour" a miss after rereading my notes from the 2018 show and scoring a decent ticket on the floor in Paris. Macca, like the Stones, has been a big part of my life for nearly 40 years and...well that's priceless. Can't wait !!!
