The New Barbarians...an incredibly populated super duper grouper that just didn't reach its potential...wonder what could have been with some extensive studio sessions...

...better yet NB14 might be fun...

I was at The 5/19/79 show at the Forum in Inglewood, CA. I had seen the Stones the year before at Anaheim Stadium and although I had purchased Wood's albums, I have to admit I didn't have the appreciation for what I was seeing that I would now. I remember everyone was waiting and hoping Mick Jagger would come out for the encores.

My one lasting memory is that is was LOUD. Modeliste's drums were the predominant sound, more so than the guitars.

The New Barbarians, hmmm. A jazz bassist instead of a rock bassist? No, they tried that again and it still hasn't worked out 19 years later. Keith on lead vocals? That works for two numbers. Ronnie on lead vocals? No thanks.

I was there for NB in LA. Interesting idea, but the whole was less than the sum of its parts.

Also was at Knebworth 79. Thought they were great. Phil Chen stood in for Stanley Clarke.

The Barbs were a fun and talented band. Very relaxed on stage and they played some rocking shows. Saw em at the Amphitheater in Chicago. I wonder what the coke bill was for that tour??? Trust me those boys were feeling no pain.

I have a friend who saw them in Ann Arbor. It was the first show after Ottawa which had resulted in a Stones appearance. The audience kept screaming for Jagger leading an exasperated Ronnie Wood to, at one point, exclaim, What do I hafta do? Bleed for ya? HE AIN'T HERE!"

Long John Stoner- I was at the same show. Remember Keith playing piano? I loved the show and was also and the 1978 Anaheim Stadium shoe throwing show. That stage was filled with shoes and topless women in the front row.
