in that August 1971 interview with Robert Greenfield, Keith mentioned an album
by Billy Fury .." he did one fantastic album that I've lost.."

I've always wondered which album Keith was talking about.. maybe this one..?

actually I've never heard Billy Fury..was he a rocker back in the day..well known in Europe?

just curious..

Yep,

One of the pre-Beatles British rockers, with roots in Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent et al .

It's a market and kind of "sub-genre" that didn/t get to grow much in the three or four years before the Beatles and Stones turned everything upside down and took it back across the pond.

yeah

here's the quote

"Billy Fury, who did one fantastic album that I've lost. He got it together once. One really good album. Songs he'd written, like people do now, he got some people he knew to play together and did it. His other scene was the hits, heavy moody ballads and the lead pipe down the trousers. They were all into that one."

It was the 10" The Sound of Fury album. Features Joe Brown on guitar, good stuff.

Joe Brown...now there's one very under rated guitar player.

[Sort of a British James Burton if you're not familiar with him.]

good old Keith, great film. it really encapsulates the grim reality of 50's britain & that whole Billy Fury etc early era & has ringo and keith in it.

one of the greatest rock & roll films.

Telstar is also absolutely brilliant and of course includes reference to Billy Fury, great film

There were a whole bunch of Elvis wannabes at that time, some better than others, who all had the same sort of names (spot the template): Billy Fury, Marty Wilde, Rory Storm, etc. BF was definitely the best, IMO.

Billy Fury miming to Nothin' Shakin' on British TV's Ready Stead Go! in 1964. The recording allegedly features Jimmy Page on lead guitar.
