He probably will be during the tour. This isn't a full length show.

Shows like this are akin to baseball spring training: it is all about seeing what works, what doesn't, tweaking, adjusting, and getting ready for the official season (tour), not knowing the final line-up until day of game. So, it looks to me like that is what they were doing tonight. THe setlist for opening night may be much different than this, and may well not have YGMR as opening number.

Because the greatest live versions always feature him and his glorious raga runs on the fretboard.

But he didn't play on the original. I think the reason for having him there is to focus on the songs from his era.

listen to ya-ya's or others from the '69 tour... they transformed the song live when they had taylor on it. he's not needed for the song, but it's totally different with him...

Thanks everyone for keeping us in the loop..and thanks to Paulwaul for his spot-on thoughts.

And to all those here who have torn into Mick Taylor this week, I pray for your redemption!

Would really like to see the Stones do a kick ass "Time Is On My Side" when they hit the stadiums.

Well two songs for a short warmup set is a good start, that means at least 3 in the arenas, 5 would be a good number I think...or 4 :

LIV
MR
Sway
SFM

Yes, good point. But you'll notice the pattern that, so far, MT's appearances have only focused on songs they recorded in 1969. SFM was too early in the set for his appearance. They'll have him on somewhat later in the set, after the first half, and in consecutive songs. They might even give him 3 songs in a full-length concert. I'll bet they'll give him a mini-set with Love In vain, Midnight Rambler, and Sway--they have been rehearsing Sway....

Thank you so much for the kind updates and postings for this show! Many of us were hoping MT would get to do more than 2 songs. At this point in the Stones career, and probably last tour they can only go out blazing with MT. Truly the world's greatest!

ah, ok, so you're not talking about what would make the best show, but rather the logic they are using to pick his tunes ... makes sense, i guess.

This is why SFM needs Taylor.

Chuck is plinking Taylors higher register guitar parts.

Listen to GYYYO... it's magnificent.

Three shall be the number, and the number shall not be higher than three.

Don't forget that in the full-length shows there will be three or so appearances by big-name special guests, a diva to duet on Gimme Shelter, etc. Mick Taylor would have gotten one song had Bill Wyman not dropped out. So, in the absence of Bill, Mick T inherits a couple of additional numbers.

That was a great setlist, well, except Miss You but you can't win 'em all! LOL Now we can only hope they will keep most of these songs in the lineup for the tour, the fact that they had MT play on two songs during this short gig gives me hope he will have more involvement during the tour.

Well done, Stones! smileys with beer

For a tour warm-up club show, pretty bloody good really .... even making allowances for a rotten choice of opening number, but that's just my own opinion. I happen to hate that song, I hate it wherever within a set it appears, so if it appears as an opener ... that's just adding insult to injury as far as I'm concerned.

But all in all, given that we all accept that these days the Stones simply cannot get away with not including certain staples like BS & JJF at the very least, in virtually whatever context they perform, a great set. They do covers so damn well, I think that the three they elected to do here worked fantastically.

Congrats to all that got in.

[ I want to shout, but I can hardly speak ]
